I love changing things around in our home, maybe it’s because I am a creative person and like to change things around often. The mantel is a space I vision for each season and holiday. During the summer I typically style the mantel with simple decorations. Come see how it looks this summer and the decor items I styled.

Like always, I start with a clean blank mantel. The mirror fits perfectly above the mantel, for the most part I keep the mirror as my default anchor piece and start layering with color and texture.
When decorating the mantel I like to keep the decorations balanced. This doesn’t mean everything has to be symmetrical (each side mirroring the other). To achieve balance considering the visual “weight” that each piece brings. A little bit of asymmetry is often pleasing to the eye so long as it is balanced by other objects of similar weight.
I like to add a statement vase to one side, it adds texture, dimension and provides weight to the mantel.
Incorporating realistic stems and florals can create a lively element while bringing height to a space.
To the other side, thinking about balance, I added two wooden candleholders.
The color and texture blends well with the vase I placed on the other side of the mirror.
To mimic the color of the blooms of the stem, I added battery operated flicker candles to each candleholder.
Now to add the simple pieces to finish the mantel. These are little fillers to bring color and theme to the space.
I placed a green plant with a white container to sit next to the dark vase.
The container adds texture as well with the hobnail look to it.
Next to the candleholders I am placing a short flat sided vase to bring more texture and color to that side of the mantel.
There is a rule of thumb working in odd numbers, which there is always loopholes in everything. I went with two items to each side of the mirror. Technically, if I used the mirror as an object I did use three items to each side. 🙂
This will be the last time I change my mantel until Fall! I hope you come back when I share how I style our home for Fall 2024!
