SURPRISE BOX CHALLENGE – CHRISTMAS

Hey there!  Welcome back to Decorate and More with Tip!!  Today’s blog post I am hosting a surprise box challenge, I grabbed 5 other bloggers who were willing to participating in the blog challenge.

Here is a little quick rundown of the Surprise Box Challenge.

  • All of us were given a name to send 10 items from Dollar Tree, one being a challenge item
  • When we receive the box of items, we have to use all the contents of the box to make cute DIYs
  • We can add to the items with our own supplies but have to use everything in some way or another

I sent my box to Mairah, Worchester Run and received my box from Shae, Sweet Southern Grace.   I will have all the blogger’s blog link at the bottom of my page.

The 10 items in my box were:

  • a sign
  • package of berry picks
  • ornament
  • green, white, red and black paint
  • paint brush
  • paint dabbers
  • PEACE plaque

The first DIY I am going to do, will be with the sign, berries, paints and paint brush.

DIY Banner Wreath

I traced a banner pattern onto the back of the Dollar Tree sign.

I used a jigsaw to cut out the banner and drilled two holes to each end of the banners.

Using some black paint to darken the red paint a bit.  I painted two coats on my banners with the paint brush Shae sent me.

I made two mini wreaths out of a Dollar Tree mini wreath forms I purchased a couple years ago and bits and pieces of leftover Christmas greenery.

After my wreaths were together, I added the berries to the wreaths.

I pulled out my Dollar Tree gold rub on lettering and placed the words “Believe” and “Merry & Bright” to my banners.

Using an old sanding block, I sanded lightly over the entire banner, word and all.

To attach my banner to the wreath, I am using black wire from Dollar Tree in the Automotive aisle.

I took a piece of wire and doubled it up, thread it through one of the drilled holes, wrap the wire around the end of a paint brush making a spiral effect.  This keeps the wired from going through the drilled hole.  Wrap the bottom wire around the wreath.  Repeat the steps to the other side.

I placed my wreaths on my dining room mirrors with ribbon.

I love the new addition decorations to our Christmas dining room!

DIY Peace Decorations

The items I will be using from my box next, the PEACE plaque, ornament, sponge dabbers and paint.

I’m using one of my PEACE plaques and one from the box to finish the letters.

Using the jig saw I carefully cut on the lines.  I nailed the letters on a piece of 1″x 2″.

I wasn’t thinking clearing when nailing the letters to the board.  Do what I say, not what I do.  Before adding letters, stain the board.  I am using Waverly Antique wax.

I painted the letters red and green.

Next, I tore apart…carefully, the ornament.

Tracing out the Christmas tree onto the material of the ornament.  It fits perfectly.

Using Tacky Glue to glue down the fabric onto the wooden Christmas tree.

To seal the fabric, I am using Poly and a sponge dabber.

I used the greenery from the ornament and a mini pinecone to add to the Christmas tree.

To the lettering I am adding some details as well with the white paint.

One coat of poly with another dabber and I am calling this done!

I placed the stake in my Christmas planter, I will share how it looks on my front porch tomorrow!

This was such a fun hop; I love the not knowing what I will receive and the fun of creating something to decorating with in our home.

Thanks for stopping by our Surprise Box Challenge blog hop, make sure you go over to see what Mariah does with the box of items I sent her.

  2. Terrie I love your signs. You did such a great job using all of your items. If I had to choose – and I’m thankful I don’t- I love how you took apart the Peace sign and re-arranged the orientation of it. Plus, I do love some plaid. Such a great job. Thanks so much for hosting this fun challenge.

    1. Thank you, Tammy. You know when I was painting the letters, I had you in mind saying to myself, what would Tammy paint on each letter? Then I realized I couldn’t do the detailing as you do so I did dots and lines. Turned out pretty good. ha!
