Today, I am sharing the light fixture project. She wants to change the 3 light fixtures in the room. Being on a budget, she really doesn’t have the funds to buy the fixtures she wants to replace them with. Lucky for her I love to do makeovers.

A ceiling fan is the main light fixture in the room.
The light fixture she wants to replace the fan with is a massive light fixture. To use the light fixture I am going to have to revamp it to make it fit in her room.
Here is the light fixture she wants to add to her room.
The problem: The room has an 8 foot ceiling. The light fixture measures 4 feet itself.
The fix: I took the light fixture apart, I cut the two base rods to a shorter length, Jim had a welder he works with weld the cut rods back to the connectors I then put the base of the light fixture back together. I shorten the beads as well.
Here is what it looks now.
When we removed the ceiling fan, of course the light fixture plate of the ceiling fan was larger than the plate of her light fixture. We had to add a medallion to hide the hole in the ceiling.
Next up is the entry way light, this fixture is out of date and it doesn’t complement the main fixture we just installed.
Here’s the entryway light.
We took the light fixture down and I took it apart. I am throwing the glass globe away. We won’t be using it.
Another light fixture she wants to change is the stairway wall light.
Here’s the light fixture in the stairwell.
We are just tossing that one away.
She gave me two inspirational photos of the light fixtures she would love to replace them with.
I went to my favorite thrift store to see what I can find to replace the stair well fixture. I found a brass two light wall sconce for $5.00. It looked pretty close to her inspirational photo. It had the two light holders and a good shape, I think I can make this look similar. So I bought it.
Taking the thrift store light fixture apart and tossing the little flower base of both lamps.
I gave both bases a couple coats of satin black spray paint.
After the paint dried I took the entryway light and drilled holes in the base and the little globe holder.
I measured the center of each corner and placed a dot.
Before drilling, I placed a little block of wood under where I will be drilling.
Remember the main fixture that I revamped? It has a black background with some brown and silver splatters all over it.
Trying to resemble the base of the main light fixture, I placed the other light fixture’s bases in a cardboard box.
To do a splatter effect with the paint I am taking a brush full of silver paint hitting the side of the box and paint splattered.
You can tell where I drilled the holes now.
Taking some of the left over wooden beads from the main fixture and attaching the beads to the drilled holes in the base and to the globe holder.
Here is the before & after. Didn’t cost a dime, just a little work.
Her inspirational fixture and the new improved old fixture. What do you think?
Here is how I changed the thrift store fixture to complement the other two light fixtures in the room.
- I painted it black and splattered silver and brown paint onto the base
- drilled a hole in the base to attach a rod with a screw (I used the unused cut off rod from the main fixture)
- added a little knob to the top of the rod to give it a finished look
- attached some left over beads from the main fixture. I connected two bead strands to the top of the rod and ran to each candle holder
- attached another strand of beads from candle holder to candle holder
- Added two chandelier light bulbs
Pretty nice huh? $5.00 is all I spent on this.
Here is the before & after
The inspirational fixture and the thrift store makeover.
I am so happy we were able to use the light fixture she loves so much. I also gave two light fixtures a makeover with some of the beads and a leftover parts. Who would of thought?
We still have a few more projects to do in the room before we can share the reveal.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Terrie, amazing transformations!!! Fantastic job, Super Girl!!!
Thank you! I honestly didn’t know if I could pull it off. We put the light fixture up for sale and someone was going to buy it…then we started to look at light fixtures to place in the room. It was about the same as what she had but smaller and the price was double the price since she purchased it a year ago. So I did some thinking and so happy that it came apart to where I could change it up. It paid off BIG time. Thanks for stopping by sweet friend!
Terrie bravo with much applause happening here. You did an outstanding job with all the fixtures. I’m afraid of electricity and would not be brave enough to tackle that part.
Once again fantastic. Love every look.

Thank you Cindy! I impressed myself on this project. She really wanted to use her light fixture she had in her other home but it was way too large for her new home. It took a little imagination, well a lot of it and some work. It did work. It changed the look of her fixture but it looks great in her room now with the new size. Thanks for stopping over to check out the makeover!
