Is there anything better than a beautifully decorated home? Decorating our home is one of my favorite things to do. Finding inspiration, shopping and then getting back at home, kicking off my shoes, putting my hair up to start decorating.
OK! Let’s be honest, it isn’t something I felt comfortable doing at first. I have grown a lot since I first started decorating our home.
I am sharing 3 home decorating questions I get asked frequently. Maybe some of my answers will help you when decorating your home.
Question #1 – How do you style your home in a cohesive way without feeling completely overwhelmed?
My answer: Start with something very easy. To make your home look more cohesive, choose a whole house color scheme.
This means, select a dominant color for your home. Typically, the walls being the dominant color, consider what color will compliment your furniture and flooring. And then let your accessories provides the accent colors.
Question #2 – How do you know what design style you are?
My answer: I am still learning this one myself. The only thing I can say about this question, search and save home styles you find interesting. Once you gathered up the styles you love, scan through each one of them and start examining e on what they have in common. Jot those similarities down.
You might have a variety of styles, it’s hard to define your style if you love more than one certain design style. For most of us we do struggle to design and decorate our home when we can’t define our style. The more you research inspiration that pleases you, you’ll start to notice patterns of what you like. When styling your home in different design style, it can work by keeping a relatively neutral base, accented with colors with a consistent color palette throughout your home.
Question #3 – How can I make my home feel warm and cozy?
My answer: My take on warm and cozy is focusing on layering soft textures like throw blankets, pillows and rugs.
Here are some easy tips to create a warm and cozy space.
Choose a warm wall color.
Painting your walls in the right shade of paint can make your home feel warm and welcoming.
Hang artwork or wall decor at the right level.
This is such an easy change to make in your home! Hanging artwork at the wrong height can spoil the overall balance and harmony of a space. General rule of thumb, hang your artwork 57 inches from the floor to the center of your artwork, doing this you will create a more warm and relaxing view.
Incorporating warm metals.
There are a variety of ways to bring in warm metals to your home. When designing with metal, you can use warmer tones like copper and brass to create a welcoming atmosphere for your guests. Warm metal can be used in a range of settings, from lighting fixtures to furniture accents.
A first step in determining the temperature of the metal, think of brass, copper and gold as warm, while silver and aluminum are cooler, and cast iron or black metals are neutral.
I love all of your comments and messages, I hope I can give you some helpful tips to decorate your home. I am still learning as well, when I learn I will share with you!
