I am going to work on a side table I painted for Kristin several years ago. She doesn’t want it anymore and was going to toss it out. I decided to bring it home with me! Here is what I did to make this trash into a treasure.
Side Table Revamp
First, I need to strip the existing paint from the surface. I applied a coat of Kwik-strip paint stripper with a paint brush all over the table.
To remove the old paint:
- apply a coat of paint stripper
- scrape the loose paint with a putty knife
- wipe the entire table with mineral spirits
- sand the entire table with 120 grit sandpaper
- wipe the entire table with a clean damp cloth
I took the table apart to paint each piece. I applied one coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1•2•3 primer to each piece.
Once the primer was dry, I sanded lightly each piece with a sanding sponge then wiped it down with a damp cloth.
The paint I am using is Cream Batch by Greensheen. It is the same paint I painted on the walls in our home.
I painted three coats, sanding between each coat.
I assembled the table and distressed the edges with the sanding sponge.
The knob before was too small, I switched it and painted it as well.

I love a good furniture flip. Your trick for painting the spindles I am going to steal. Are you going to keep or sell this cutie?
Thanks Kelli, not too sure about selling or keeping. 🙂 Glad I gave you a tip. Have a great day my friend.
This table looks great! I’m sure it will be loved.
thanks Cindy
Terrie, although the original table was really cute, I can see why you wanted a refresh. The softer white color certainly makes the table more versatile. You have great instructions for this project.
Thank you Carol. Yes, the table was cute for what it was painted for but wouldn’t fit in a lot of home painted that way. 🙂 I like the softer color as well.
Terrie, this little table turned out great!
Thank you Hannah!
Your table is stylish and classy! Love it!

Thank you so much!
You did an amazing makeover on that table, Terrie! Kudos for stripping that paint. Definitely not one of my favorite jobs but the end result is SO worth it!
I was leery on even tackling the table due to all the bright color paints and many layers, but once I added the stripper it was very easy. Things we do! Thanks Christine.
I love how the little table turned out Terrie!!
Thanks Shae.
Terrie, Your table came out so great. It was cute before too. Love the detailed instructions too.
Thanks Jodi. I spent more time painting it with the details for Kristin than I did stripping and painting. 🙂
What a lovely transformation, Terri! I call this project a labor of love!! Seems like a lot of work (for me) but with great results! Kristen might want it back after she sees how pretty you’ve made it! I know I would! Great job!
Thanks Gail, I really thought it would be a long process since I added layers on layers of paint before for her, but the stripper took care of it the first coat. I would say she might have wanted it back but her new office now is all decorated with no room to spare. 🙂
Terrie I love both the before and the after! I do hate stripping furniture, so I’m giving you bonus points for going the extra mile. The finished table is beautiful!
Thanks Tammy. I wasn’t going to tackle this table but thought since it was in good shape I should. After one coat of the stripper, it actually came all off. The cleanup was the worst part of the whole project.
