Too much home time gives me too much thinking time.  With that being said here is what I have been doing with my time. 🙂  I am finally getting around to things I have pushed to the side because it wasn’t that important to change.  One thing is doing something with the clock on our wall in the family room.  I purchased the clock we have now from Kirkland’s many years ago when our home was a Tuscan style.  I have painted the frame before, still not totally happy with the look.  I don’t want to go out and replace the clock, it’s not too ugly and it works fine.

When I purchased the clock the frame was a dark bronze color.  I painted it a lighter brown and dry brushed some white paint to the frame.  But still wasn’t the look I was aiming for.  One morning I searched on Google for some inspiration and spotted this mirror from Shade of Lights, it is the look I want my clock’s frame to have.  I do have several of those wooden beads left over from our daughter’s light fixture revamp. 🙂  Here is the frame I am looking at.

I love the look and style of the frame so I took my clock off the wall and gave it a good look over.  There is a place on the frame where I can glue beads in just like the inspirational frame.

I gathered all the items I need to give my clock’s frame a makeover.

• 71 beads
• hot glue sticks and a glue gun
• E6000
• finishing wax
• 220 grit sand paper
• painter’s tape
• paint

I taped around the frame to protect the glass from the paint.

I sanded the entire frame with 220 grit sand paper and cleaned the frame.

I made sure the beads would fit nicely around the frame.  Gluing the beads to the frame with E6000 and hot glue.  Just adding a drop of each to the beads.  I made sure to place the holes facing to the side and not up and down.

All the beads are glued into the frame.  I am loving the look so far.

Painting the entire frame with Waverly Truffle chalk paint.

I blended Waverly ivory and truffle chalk paint together and applied a dry brush onto the frame.  I highlighted it with black chalk paint.

Before applying the finishing wax to the frame I wanted to see how it would look up on my wall.

Nope I hate the color!  After I placed it in the room it looks black.  So I took it down from the wall and painted the whole thing with Waverly ivory chalk paint.

After I painted the frame with ivory chalk paint, I mixed truffle, ivory and pumpkin chalk paint together and dry brushed it onto the frame.  I highlighted the crevices with truffle chalk paint.

This time around painting the frame to match the candle holders I have up on my mantel.  What do you think?

Second time is a winner!  I applied the finishing wax on the frame and placed it on the wall.

I love the new look our clock has and fits the room.  It’s sooo cute. 🙂  This makeover is a thumbs up, don’t you think?  Didn’t cost me anything but a couple hours and yes some frustration, but worth it.
