Easter Bookcase Decor
Do you decorate your home for Easter? I always enjoy decorating our home for special holiday and seasons. I hope I will inspire you to decorate your home after reading today’s post.
You may be adding little touches of Easter to your home already, but have you decorated a bookcase, floating shelves or even a built-in for Easter yet?
I am going to show you how I decorated our bookcase for Easter by using simple steps for a perfect design no matter what season or holiday you are styling it for.
First things first, you need to choose your theme and colors. When gathering your decorations keep in mind variation of sizes, colors, textures and shapes.
Three simple steps in decorating a BOOKCASE
Create foundations:
To create the foundation for each shelf you are decorating, add all the larger items first. Making sure to stager the larger objects from shelf to shelf instead of a placing them in a single line.
As you can see in my bookcase, above, I placed the SPRING ROSE WALL ART (SIMILAR) in the center of the top shelf, moving in a zig zag direction when placing the other larger items.
When styling several shelves, such as my bookcase, you don’t have to use large pieces on every shelf.
Starting with the larger items, this creates a foundation and a focal point to each shelf.
Create balance:
To give your shelves an overall look and feel, add layers with smaller items. Decorating in groups, place them in front or back of each other or layering them in different heights which interns gives your shelves visual interest.
Create a theme:
Having a theme in mind can make the decorating process easier and more focused. As the larger items, a theme acts as a foundation bringing the room together creating a cozy and pleasing space.
To the very top of the bookcase, I sat two BUNNIES to fill in the gap between the candlesticks and tulip filled vase. I nestled the larger bunny in the back of the smaller bunny to encourage the eye movement.
The first shelf will serve as the overall focal point for the bookcase. I arranged the items in a way that draws the eye to this shelf first.
Steps to create the focal point.
- Choosing the right shelf is very important. You want to select the shelf that is at eye-level.
- Consider using items with the largest, boldest color.
- Give the vignette an unusual styling; try styling it in an asymmetrical look for a visual appeal.
The next shelf I placed a DOUGH BOWL with greenery and a few blooms tucked inside. Only using a single item that fills the space gives the eye a moment to rest in between shelves.
Moving down to the next shelf I wanted this shelf to have more depth than the others.
Steps to create depth:
- Place taller items against the back
- Use items with a medium height to the middle
- Position a smaller item towards the front
The last shelf, keeping my large wicker basket, adding a small wicker bunny to the side keeps a visual balance to the display.
I hope my spring tips on styling a bookcase have given you the inspiration to add spring touches around your home as well. This week I am in the family room decorating it for Easter, I am loving the pops of pink floral stems and bunnies!
