Welcome back into our home … Today, we are starting a laundry room refresh, last week here on the blog, I kicked off the project with my mood board of the space. LAUNDRY ROOM – MOODBOARD.
I am happy to say I am loving how it looks on paper, so let’s see how it will turn out as I begin all the projects I want to do in the room.
Joining me will be my friend Tammy Patina and Paint, she has a laundry room project she’s been meaning to finish for a while now. We both will be sharing some laundry room inspiration with you! I will have Tammy’s project link at the bottom of my page for you.

First Week’s Laundry Room Projects
For me, it’s better to break down each projects in stages. First one being hardest to least hardest.
First Project:
Painting the cabinets.
I joined in the $100 Room Challenge back in January 2020 for a laundry room makeover. I painted the cabinets for that challenge. The color I went with Settle Grey by Benjamin Moore.
Four years ago, I was into brightened up the space … but the color doesn’t spark my interest and keeps me second guessing myself.
I removed all the doors, hardware and drawer from the cabinets, sanded and painted two coats of a paint mixture half Dovetail Grey and half Sturdy Brown, both from Sherwin Williams. I painted the inside as well. After the paint dried, I applied one coat of the Valspar dark glaze. I did the same technique on the cabinets as I did with the Bedroom furniture.

Second Project:
Wallpapering the back wall.
The wall was another project that I did in the $100 Room Challenge, DIY BUFFALO PLAID WALL. I decided to go with a more sophisticated plaid pattern instead, the wallpaper is by Chesapeake called Twain Plaid in the color Dove. I shared the paper last week and as of right now, it is sold out! I knew you would love the wallpaper too.
To prep the wall before wallpapering, I sanded the entire wall with 220 grit sandpaper, cleaned and dry the wall.
The tools I use when wallpapering:
- wallpaper
- wallpaper paste
- paint brush
- tape measure
- scissors
- large putty knife
- utility knife
- wallpaper brush/scraper
- microfiber cloth
To begin wallpapering, I measured from the bottom of the crown moulding to top of the baseboards. I cut the first strip of paper by measuring the paper the size of the measurement of the wall.
I added 2 inches to the length for safe measures.
With my paint brush, I loaded it with wallpaper paste, painted it on the back of the strip of paper evenly, folding it over as I went down the strip to prevent the paste from drying out.
To apply it on the wall, start by making a level line for a guide. Since I made a level line when creating the buffalo plaid, I used the lines on the wall.
Cutting the second strip, you need to find the starting pattern from the top and measure from there. I didn’t have much waste since the pattern was the same throughout.
After applying the paste, start matching your pattern with the previous row.
I forgot to take a photo of how I cut the excess off. With my putty knife I press up on the trim and below the putty knife edge, I use a sharp straight blade and cut the paper neatly off. Continue to add rows of paper until you finished the wall.
This project gave me the push to clean our cabinets and drawers here in the laundry room. They are all clean and organized as well.
So, we are finished for this week here in the laundry room. I am very happy with the looks of the cabinets and back wall.
I will be working on the bench wall this coming up week along with a creative craft which will be placed in the laundry room. I hope to install the new light fixture as well.
