One of the largest spaces in our home are our kitchen countertops. The art of decorating your counter space goes beyond stylish, it’s about creating an area that reflects your style and design.

To make informed decisions about what decor to add to your counters keep these 3 things in mind: purpose, functionality, and pleasing appearance.

Decorating with purpose.

Decorating with purpose is to think about the areas you want to style and the look you wish to create.

I divide my countertops into sections and decorate them according to the area they are near.  What is the purpose for each space, is it to be functional or pleasing to the eye?

However, seasonal countertop decor can be fun and also functional.

I place this pumpkin canister near the Keurig, this holds all of our Splenda packages.

Here I placed a seasonal mug in the middle glass canister. The mug adds a little pop of orange to this corner.

The last seasonal piece I added near the sink seasonal soap and dish towels. This is one of my most common areas that I love to decorate for all seasons!

Here is another place I love to add a seasonal dish towel, placing it over the edge of my Kitchen Aid mixing bowl.  I guess this could be functional, it’s mostly pleasing to the eye.
