SIMPLE FALL HUTCH STYLING

Today, I am decorating the last piece in the kitchen nook.  So join me as I show you how simple it is to decorate a hutch for the fall season.

Since I’ve decorated my hutch so many times now, I’ve worked out a routine.  Although, I’m far from a styling “expert,” I thought I’d share my routine with y’all in case hutch styling is hard for you too!

1. Theme

Decide what you want to highlight on the shelves. Do you have a fall collection that needs some extra attention? Whatever it is, decide on that first so you have a direction to go in. The direction can change, but it is easier if you start with some kind of plan, so you don’t get overwhelmed halfway through.

Take some time to look around at photos of other peoples’ hutches and see what you’re drawn to over and over.

This Fall season, I went with pumpkins as my theme, I pick out white and orange pumpkins in different sizes.

2. Focal Point

Choose an item as the center of interest, the anchor of your hutch. It will be the first point on which the eyes rest on.

For my hutch, the other shelves stem off the feel and look of the top shelf, which holds my anchor piece.

Both the pumpkin frame and arrangement are DIYs I created this year for the hutch.

3. Style

When placing your items on your shelf you want to give enough spacing between your pieces, as well as not placing two similarly shaped items close together. For example, I placed different colors and sizes of pumpkins to the second shelf; to break the straight line of the pumpkins I placed florals stems around the pumpkins.

To the bottom part of the hutch, I kept the tray in the center to compliment the decorations on the top shelf.

Keeping the top and bottom decorations centered forms a diamond shape, which naturally draws the eye and creates a pleasing sense of order.

You can carry the 3 tips out on any type of shelving from open bookshelves, a curio cabinet, to an entryway console table!
