So what have I been up too the last week? Well, it hasn’t been painting or any great DIYs…it has been getting the laundry room ready to start working. Every year we move the washer and dryer from the wall to clean out the dryer vent. The reason why we have to do this is because our wall is on the other side of our double car garage which isn’t an outside wall. The dryer vent pipe is under our garage floor, runs through to an outside wall. The dryer vent has about 4 bends from the back of the dryer to the outside wall. This causes lint to get trapped inside the pipe. We went through 3 heating elements before we realized why, not very budget friendly! 🙁 Since we have to move the washer and dryer out from the wall and cabinets what better time to clean the vent out than now? Here are the steps we take to clean out the dryer vent pipe.

- Mr. Tip takes a plumber’s drain snake and feeds it through the vent knocking the stuck on lint
- Taking the yard blower, placing it inside the dryer vent
- Blowing out the loosen lint until nothing comes out
I removed the wall decor from all the walls and patched up the nail holes and nicks with spackle. After it dried I sanded and wiped down the walls.
I also removed the wall decal. It was easier than I thought, it didn’t mess up the wall at all. I used a dull putty knife to get it started. Once a little came up I peeled it right off.
To get the cabinets ready to be painted I removed the cabinet doors and drawer, sanded, I used simple green to clean the cabinets and then I primed all the cabinets.
I decided to paint the inside of the cabinets as well.
Week 2 expenses:
- Primer – I had primer left over from my last project = $0
- sponge roller – I purchased a package of 2 rollers = $5.44
Off to a budget friendly start. 🙂
Here is what I still need to do
- Paint cabinets
- Paint walls
- Paint the buffalo plaid wall
- Build a bench and shelf
- Paint closet door and inside exterior door
- Paint trim and crown molding
- Spray paint door knobs
- Decorate the space
