5 WAYS TO FRESHEN UP YOUR HOME DECOR

Hello friends!  We had a spring like day yesterday, but today is going to turn back to a  cold and wintry day. Winter can be a bit depressing. With the days shorter and having to be indoors most of the time I can see why people have the winter blues.  It can make us all go stir crazy. The first part of winter we had all the holiday festivities, but after the decorations are put away it’s back to the dreary days.   And you know we still have a couple of weeks left of winter.

That brings the topic of my blog today.  How can we overcome the winter blues?  Our surroundings has a huge impact on how we feel.  I have gathered 5 tips to share with you on how we can brighten our homes and our spirits!

Let’s get started!

1. Bring the outside in.

Bringing in a touch of nature with flowers, fruit or greenery, they are a great way to brighten your home.  Just think about it, when a friend is in the hospital, what do we do we bring them to cheer them up?  We bring them flowers, a plant or a fruit basket, right?

Flowers – what better way to bring in the trend color and to be able to change the color out every week?  Bring in some fresh cut flowers from the grocery store or buy a bundle of nice silk flower arrangement to display in your home.  Placing it in your home will brighten up your home without any work at all.

Not a flower person?  What about a plant or some type of greenery?  I don’t like live plants in my home so I lean toward a nice faux plant instead.  Adding it into your home will make a nice statement and greenery will blend with any color theme you have.

The only tip I have for you is when buying faux greenery pay a little more for a nice piece instead of the cheaper greenery that looks like they are plastic.

Adding some greenery will boost up your room.

Don’t really care for flowers or greenery?  You can get the same effect by adding some fruit..

2. Perk up your pillows and throws!

Changing out your throw pillows are an inexpensive and easy thing to change out.  You can change the entire color scheme of a room with just a few throw pillows.

We are in the coldest part of the year, this is the best time to break out our thick and bulky blanket.   It will add texture to your room.  Draping a throw on the end of your sofa or over a chair adds warmth and coziness to the room.

3. Bring in some light!

During winter the days are a lot shorter, it’s cold and dreary so adding soft lighting will keep the room with a warm glowing and cozy feeling.  Adding some artificial lighting is a good way to get this look.  Candlelight gives such a peaceful and calming glow.  Using battery operated candles would work for those that don’t like to burn candles.

4. Bring in some color!

In the winter months it can become a little gloomy and dull.   By adding a pop of color will give your room that spark it is missing.

Try to remember using this color formula when decorating your home .  The 60-30-10 Rule.

  • 60% is your dominant color
  • 30% is your secondary color
  • 10% for the accent (pop) of color

5. Rearrange!

One of the least expensive ways to refresh your space, is simply reorganizing your furniture or decor.  This is probably the least expensive way of giving your home a breath of fresh air.  If you like how your furniture is placed or if you don’t have the option to move it, what about changing up the bed linens or changing out your decor from room to room?  The first thing you should do is look around the house and try to find ways to use the things you already have.

How will you freshen up your home during the winter season? The winter months are so depressing, hopefully you will use some of these tips for your home to make it cozy and alive!
