HOW I DECORATE OUR SMALL FRONT PORCH

Hey Everyone!  I am excited that I have both front and back porches ready for summer.

I struggle with how to decorate our porch.  It is a very small porch which technically is called a stoop.  It always stumps me on what to put on our porch to make it look nice and functional.

Today I am sharing with you my front porch.  Here are some tips on how I make our porch inviting with some simple steps.  I hope I inspire you!

So let’s get started!

First..Clean it up!

Before anything clear off everything on your porch and give it a cleaning.

I decided to go ahead and pressure wash the back patio and front porch.  It was on our spring cleaning list to do anyway.  My husband was not at home so I tackled this project all by my lonesome!

You can really tell what part I have done and what I haven’t done yet.

I even scrubbed the brick walls down with some soapy water and a stiff brush.  Making sure all the dust and dirt is off of them too.

Second..Add pop of color!

A good way to bring in color would be giving your front door a fresh coat of paint or adding a pop of color with flowers.

Our front door is painted black.  I give a pop of color to our door with a colorful wreath.

*Below I will give you a tutorial on how I made this wreath.*

Third..Add some interest to the porch!

I placed my WELCOME sign in the corner.  I secured the sign with a brick hook and a zip tie.  I didn’t want the wind to blow it over.

In front of the sign I placed a planter with flowers and greenery and to the side a lantern.

I found this adorable little metal bumble bee at the Dollar Tree.  I placed it on the planter.  So cute.

The door mat I purchased at a store called Dirt Cheap for $4.99.  I love the saying on it.

You want to make the best first impression possible.  By giving your front porch some charm your guest will be excitement to see what they will find inside!

How I made my door wreath!

I purchased the supplies for my wreath at Wal-mart.  I picked up 6 bundles on the tag it says Red Chain Daisy, but I would say it is more of a hot pink daisy.  I also picked up 3 bundles of the fern picks both the flowers and the fern picks were .97¢ each.  I have a grapevine wreath but saw a larger one for $4.97 so I picked that up also.  The whole wreath cost me $14.93.  I already had some ribbon that I will be using for this wreath.

Gathered up the items that I will be using,  my hot glue gun, which I didn’t use.  Floral wire, scissors and pliers.  Now I am ready to start making my wreath.

I am going to exposed part of the grapevine wreath so I am only decorating 3/4th of the wreath.

Starting with the fern picks.

  • The first of the three picks I made a bow tie spreading out the pick.  I tuck the end of the pick inside the grapevine wreath.  I placed it at the one o’clock position.
  • The second I fanned all the branches out and stuck it at the ten o’clock position.
  • The third pick I just pulled the branches away from each other and placed it at the six o’clock position.

Working with the daisy picks

Placing each pick in the grapevine wreath.  I twist the flower and the fern branches together to mix them together.

I wanted a little more texture for my wreath so I grabbed one of my ivy picks and cut a few pieces and tuck them into the wreath.

I made a bow and placed it on the side.

  1. Hi Terrie! Your porch looks so welcoming! No punt intended! lol! I love it! And your wreath turned out so pretty! 🙂

  2. You may not have a huge front porch area…but you surely made every inch look welcoming & enjoyable to look at. The colors are so pretty…!! Love the variety (handmade too) of things to see on your front porch… 😍

    1. Thank you so much Lucy! I would love to add furniture or wall art to the porch like you would see on other porches. I really just haven’t used my imagination out there. Maybe I will do more digging and find something for the fall that will have the WOW factor. For now, I am happy with the porch. Thank you for your sweet comments! I truly appreciate it!

  3. Good morning , Terrie :
Your front stoop turned out beautiful !! You are amazing with doing things , especially with the power washer. I wish I knew how to even start it. Ha I was thinking about getting an electric one . Thought it might be a lot easier. With so much concrete here I could keep it clean.

    1. Thank you my sweet lady! That was my first time of doing the power washer without my husband there. He wasn’t too happy with me for doing that by myself, but he said he is glad it is done. 🙂 We will have to see about you getting one that you can handle. Have a great day!
