DIY CONE CHRISTMAS TREE

Kicking off my Christmas DIY projects.  Here is my first of many!  I hope I inspire you with my holiday season blog.  I sure enjoy having you come visit me.

Have you ever seen those beautiful Christmas trees that people display in their homes?  I for one have and in love with the way they look.  I spotted a couple I really like but after I saw how much they want for them, I decided to make my own this year.

I made one last year if you remember my Bling out Christmas Tree, if you missed that you can go {{HERE}} to see the tutorial.

I thought I would share it with you just in case you would like to make for your home’s decor this Christmas.

I made a 24″ cone and a 20″ cone.  I rolled the corner then measured, marked and cut.

Here are the items you will need:

  • Two poster boards formed into a cone – Check out my tutorial on how to form a cone {{HERE}} it’s the same technique – I purchased my poster board at Dollar Tree for 50¢ a piece
  • Glitter (color of your choice) – I am using Rose Gold and Iridescent
  • Craft paint in the color of your glitter
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint brush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • packaging tape
  • file folder

After you make your cone, paint your cone the color of your glitter.  This will help hide the white poster board.

I am going with a two tone so I am painting my tree’s bottom half rose gold and leaving the top half white.

After the paint dries grab your mod podge, brush and glitter.

I painted on the mod podge in long sections.

Grab your file folder and open it up under your tree.  Pour the glitter over the glued area.

Tap the cone to drop the loose glitter off the cone.

Each section I folded up the file folder and poured the glitter back into the jar.

Continue gluing and glittering until all your cone is covered.

Doesn’t that look so pretty?  I let them dry for about an hour.

Once they were dry I took my rose gold and iridescent glitter and mixed the two.  I mixed 3 part white to 1 part rose gold.

I did the same as the bottom part.  Glued and then poured the glitter on.

After the glitter is all dry I added one coat of Mod Podge all over the cones and let dry.  That’s it!

I used less than 1/8th of the glitter and not much of the mod podge.  This Christmas DIY was just under $1.00 for each.  I just can’t sit still….I am so excited to style the trees in my home.  Here is just a sample of a little vignette using a deer and the trees.

I will be styling the two trees in our foyer.   The foyer should be ready to share soon. 🙂

I hope I inspire you to try to make this Christmas DIY for your home.
