Taking a little break from decorating to join in on our monthly creative craft blog hop. Today, I am going to make a cute decor accent for any time of the year.
Let me start out by talking about our special group of crafters. Our group is led by Sara Birdz of a Feather and Donna Modern on Monticello, they both are the master minds for the monthly blog hop, they both do a fantastic job gathering up talented crafters to provide you inspiration. This month there are 6 of us crafters sharing cute creative items at the bottom of my page, I will share each participant’s link to their page.
The end of the month I am going to take some time with my sister-in-law, Jim’s sister and help her decorate her new home. I have been with her from blueprint to picking out the stone. Now it’s time to roll our sleeves up and get to decorating, we have been shopping, thrifting and even online shopping for a lot of things, so much fun spending other’s money. 🙂 Anyway, since I need to get creative for this hop, I thought I might just make something to decorate with in her home, that is if this craft turns out good. So, let’s see if it will.
I have two pears that I am not using and thought this might just be a great accent piece to place in her kitchen or even in her china cabinets in the dining room.
Instruction on How to Make Paper Mache Pears
Supplies you will need:
- Faux pears
- Craft glue or mod podge or Elmer’s glue
- Tissue paper
- Paint brush
- Paint – colors of your choice
- Glaze spray paint
These are super easy to do; the hardest part is figuring out what color or how you want to paint them.
Step 1. Tear your tissue paper in small pieces. Don’t cut it rip it. It works better if the edges are ripped and not cut.
Step 2. Pour your glue in a container.
Step 3. Apply a section of glue to the pear, place a piece of tissue paper on the glue section, with your brush pat the paper onto the pear until it is securely glued in place.
Overlapping each piece as you go. I did several layers to make sure it was covered well.
This is how mine turned out.
Let it dry for a good full day.
Last step. Paint your pear.
I painted mine with a custom yellow paint. Using three different colors of paint to create a mustard yellow color.
I gave each pear two coats of the yellow.
I wanted to give the pears a little aging, so I used a wet paper towel and a custom color again. Burnt Umber and Spice Berry mixed together with water.
With a damp paper towel, I dabbed the mixture onto the pear.
I even painted the stem once I had the pears the way I wanted.
My sister-in-law loves high shine vases, so I thought I would glaze over the pears as well. I placed them on a bamboo skewer and gave them two coats of glaze.
I love how these turned out and will be so adorable styled in a vignette. Stay tune, I will sure be sharing our decorating experience with you!
