We are now approaching the coldest part of winter.  I have shared how to make a chunky blanket throw for your home and how to create a winter rustic living room in previous blog posts.  If you want to go read those inspirations you can click here ⇒  DIY CHUNKY BLANKET and COZY WINTER FAMILY ROOM.  Today I am going to share how I knitted a cute cozy throw pillow. 🙂

This DIY pillow requires the basic knit and purl stitch.  I also used my sewing machine to stitch the pillow together.   If you don’t knit, I hope you still keep reading and enjoy the other bloggers cozy homes.  If you knit here is a simple way to make a cute pillow to style during the winter season.

Here are the items I used:

  • Boye Single Point Aluminum Knitting Needles – Size 15
  • Bernat Blanket Yarn
  • Waverly Inspirations Cotton 18″ x 21″ Fabric
  • 12 x 20 pillow insert

First step – cast on 60 stitches

Knit the first row and purl the second row.  Repeat the two steps until you knitted 30 rows.

Written Pattern:

  • Cast On 60 stitches
  • Knit a row
  • Purl a row
  • Repeat 29 times
  • Cast off

When you are threw with the last row cast off.

Taking the Waverly fabric for the backing.  I cut the piece into two pieces folding 3 inches to one end on each piece.  To see how I created the back of the pillow you can read my previous pillow blog by clicking here ⇒ HOW TO MAKE A PILLOW.

Place the pillow insert on the front side of your knitted pillow front.

Place the two pieces of fabric on the top of the pillow.  With the folds together overlapping each other.

Pin the fabric and knitted front together with straight pins.  The knitted side will overlap to the back.

Once pinned all the way around the pillow, remove the insert from the pillow case.  Using a sewing machine, stitching a basic stitch around the pillow case.  Turn right side out.

I added tassels to each corner.  To see how I made my tassels you can click here ⇒ DIY TASSELS.

I will be sharing in a couple blogs how I create a cozy room this winter in the next few weeks.  Today, I am sharing how to create a cozy area by using different textures and patterns.

To create a cozy winter touch in your home add…..

  • different textures and patterns ( knitted, velvet or faux fur fabric)
  • using rustic colors  (browns, greens and neutrals)
  • adding nature to your space (greenery – faux or real)

We will be enjoying the cozy corner this winter.  How will you add some winter touches to your home?
