I have been missing in action the last three weeks due to a long-needed vacation.  We had such a great time away, but I sure missed being here.  So, I am so happy to be back blogging with you again!

Today, Tammy Patina and Paint, Niki Life as a Leo Wife and I are going to share how we take craft clear ornaments and create a pretty ornament to use in our homes this Christmas season.  I will have both of their ornaments down below.

Rub ‘N Buff Christmas Ornament DIY

I bought different size clear shatterproof ornaments at Dollar Tree, but you can easily use old ornaments you have on hand to achieve the look.  I will be digging some out of my ornament bins this year myself.

Let’s get to making some pretty vintage ornaments.  First, we need to remove the caps off the ornaments, we will be spray painting them with Rust-oleum Metallic Gold Spray Paint.

To make it easier to spray paint, I punched the wire into a cardboard box.

I gave them one coat of the gold spray paint.

I mixed two matt finished craft paints together to create the color I wanted.  Folkart Maroon Maroon and Apple Barrel Nutmeg Brown.

Mixed them together well.

To add texture to the paint, I added a couple spoon fulls of joint compound.

Mixing the joint compound and paints until smooth.

Paint a thick layer of joint compound paint onto the ornament.

After the ornament is entirely painted, smooth the paint in an evenly swooping pattern.

Make sure there are no lumps or ridges, let the coat dry thoroughly.

Give the ornament a second coat of paint, while wet, sprinkle flour all over the ornament.  Do not rub the flour off.

Let the floured ornament dry for several hours without touching.  That’s the hardest part.

Once the ornaments are completely dry, brush off the loose flour with a soft bristle brush.

Using a small paint brush add rub ‘n buff to your ornaments.

Dabbing and rub the rub ‘n buff to the ornament.

Loop a pretty ribbon into the hanger.

I can’t wait to see how they look on our Christmas tree this year!
