If you have been following my blog you know that the first Wednesday of the month I host a DIY Challenge. I gathered a group of bloggers that love creating budget friendly home décor. For March’s challenge we are taking those plastic Easter eggs creating some cute ways to use them this Easter season! Saving money is what we all want to do, right?   You can find links to each of their blogs at the end of my post.

When I was searching for ideas on Easter egg decorations I saw some amazing items but the one that stopped me in my track was from Kirkland’s.  Take a look at their Easter egg garland.  KIRKLAND’S VINE & EASTER EGG GARLAND

I love this garland, so I thought I would try to make one like it.  I ran into the Dollar Tree to find items to make my own version.  I found some great items and think I can do it!! 🙂

Here are the items I am using for my garland.

  • Variety size Easter Eggs
  • Floral garland
  • 2 Dogwood bloom stems
  • 1 Blooming Branch stem
  • Left over leaves from another project
  • Left over stripped down stems from another project
  • Brown floral tape
  • Craft paint and paint brush
  • Hot glue and E6000
  • wire snips
  • rubber gloves

First I needed to work on my base for the garland.  I took the garland from Dollar Tree and removed the greenery from the brown base.

After removing the greenery it’s a perfect base for the garland.

Just like the Kirkland’s garland I will be adding some pink flowers.  Using the Dogwood blooms cutting them off the bundle. Twisting the stem around the brown wire.  I wrapped brown floral tape around to secure the flowers onto the base.

For my followers, you know I never throw anything away.  I took the leaves from the baby’s breath stems I didn’t use for the Baby Shower’s floral.  Placing them on my garland as well.  I attached to the end of the Dogwood bloom stem with some hot glued

I wanted to give my garland some touches of green just like the inspirational garland.

To give a more spiked look I am using 1 blooming branch I picked up at Dollar Tree.  Doing the same thing as I did with the dogwood blooms.

So far here is what my garland looks like.  I am going to put the garland to the side and work on my eggs.

Taking all the plastic eggs and gluing the two parts together with E6000 and a wooden stick.

I placed toothpicks in the eggs for the painting process.  I painted the eggs and placed them on my styrofoam drying concoction.

Sprinkling brown craft paint on the eggs for a speckled look.  I shared how I made a Robin’s eggs on a previous Easter blog DIY. You can check that tutorial out here → DIY ROBIN EGGS.

Another project I did for the baby shower was my leaf garland.  I kept the empty wire stems -for what, I have no clue, they came in handy on this DIY.  I added pieces of the stem to each of my eggs to connect them to my garland as I did the flower stems.

I applied one coat of polycrylic to all the eggs.

I added the eggs to the garland same way as I added the flowers.

I added the mini eggs to some of the stems as well.

Although it doesn’t look like the one at Kirkland’s, it looks really cute.  If you took a look on Kirkland’s site at their garland it runs $44.99, the supplies I used to make mine was only $7.00 and a few things I had on hand.
