Hey there! Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip! It’s time for another Pin Challenge! This challenge is a lot of fun and gives us a chance to make something we see on our Pinterest feed.

The purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen! The theme of this month’s Pin challenge is anything pumpkin or Halloween. Since I don’t decorate for Halloween I am sharing a pumpkin DIY I saw while scanning through my Pinterest feed. It’s a pin from Kirkland’s. The pumpkin is no longer available so I am going to make one similar. Here is the pin I am using for inspiration, KIRKLAND’S PIN. Here is my version of the Fall Knit Pumpkin Block.
I just love taking things I have on hand and making something pretty to decorate our home. This is one of those DIYs! Here are the items I used.
- piece of scrap board 8″x 8″
- piece of drop cloth
- burlap leaf
- antique wax by Waverly
- a knitted piece of fabric
- piece of ribbon
- 3 mini buttons
- piece of dowel rod
- hot glue
- needle and thread
- sewing machine
Before I cut my shape out of the wood I took a look at the Kirkland’s pumpkin dimensions. It measures 7.75 long x 1.5 wide x 6.75 tall. I took a piece of copy paper and draw a pattern out with those dimensions.
Taking the pattern and tracing it out on my board. Using a jig saw cutting the shape out. I also cut a dowel rod the size of 1½” for the stem.
Sanding both pieces with a sand block to smooth the edges.
The Kirkland’s piece has two layers, I am using a scrap piece of drop cloth. Taking the same pattern I used earlier, tracing and cutting the pattern out.
For the knitted piece I am using an old stocking hat. I traced out the pattern, measured 1 inch toward the center to create a smaller pattern.
To keep both pieces from unraveling I used my sewing machine to stitch around the edges. Frayed the edges to both and trim even.
I attached the two pieces together with a basic stitch on my sewing machine.
For the labels, I hand wrote hello and fall with a permanent black marker on a ribbon.
Again pinned in place and stitched with my sewing machine.
Adding mini buttons for a little more detail. I stitched them to the ribbons
How cute!
Working with the wood block I stained with Waverly Antique Wax sanding lightly after the wax dried.
Adding hot glue to the back of the fabric I attached it to the wooden pumpkin. I also attached the stem to the pumpkin with hot glue.
Adding a leaf to the stem, I used a Dollar Tree burlap leaf. I trimmed it down and drew veins. Attaching it with hot glue.
Perfect for Fall.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
