GUEST BEDROOM REFRESH PROJECT

What’s blue and gold and brown all over?  One of our guest bedrooms, but seriously, this once was one of my favorite rooms in our home.  Well, back in the early 2000’s.

I am on a roll getting our home cleaned, organized and style the way I want it, or at least get it started.  A couple rooms that I have pushed off until we retired are finally getting some TLC.  First up was our half bath, I gave that little room a new look (HALF BATH MAKEOVER).  This week, I’m in one of our guest bedrooms giving it some much needed love.

Here’s what I have done with the room so far.

First was to clear everything from the room and give it a coat of paint with GreenSheen Cream Batch paint.

When painting the walls a new color, I always paint the crown moulding first.  I use Valspar high gloss ultra-white for the moulding, trim and baseboards.

I paint the crown moulding mostly to paint over the old wall color that accidently got on the moulding.

While the paint is drying on the crown moulding, I fill in all the nail holes with spackle.  I use the spackle from Dollar Tree.  Fill, drying time, sand and wipe with a damp cloth before painting the surface.

I painted two coats to the walls, the room looks better already!

Now, I’ll focus on the furniture.  Painting the posts on the head and foot board and both side tables.

For the bed posts I applied one coat of Rust-oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze and then dry brushed FolkArt copper to highlight some areas.

Painting the posts gave the head and foot board a uniform look than the two tone it was before.

I used DecorArt chalky paint in the color ADC43 (Grey), I purchased at Hobby Lobby.  This paint didn’t require any type of prep to the furniture other than cleaning the furniture before use.

First coat felt sticky when applying, but the second coat went on smoothly.  After two coats of the DecoArt I applied one coat of the Waverly white wax to the furniture.

Gave the furniture two coats of Minwax Finishing wax.  I spray painted the knobs on the table with the same spray paint as the bed posts.

Next, was painting the mirror frame I will be placing in the room.  This MIRROR was once in our kitchen.  I painted it in a distressed wood look.

The last piece of furniture I changed was the cushion fabric on the chair, an easy change.

Material was purchased from Hobby Lobby.

All the painting is done, now it’s time to get into the closet and pick out what bedding I want to place in the room.

I decided to use the bedding I had two summers ago in our MASTER BEDROOM.

I will be using my white sheers to the window as well.

While everything is out of the room, I shampooed the carpets with my HOOVER CARPET CLEANER.  I love having my own carpet shampooer, simple to use and simple to clean afterwards.

I am so happy to get that part of the refresh done. Now that I picked out the bedding, I’ll go through all my frames to see what I want to place on the walls.  I did order new lighting for the bedside on Amazon, hopefully I will receive them on time to finish the room so I can share it on Tuesday’s blog post!  Until then, thanks for stopping by to see what I have been working on, I appreciate it!
