Now, let’s get to the fun part! Be sure to read down below to hear why I wanted to change this space, my favorite way to do reveals is to show a before shot, followed by a similar angle in an after shot.

Let’s talk about the “before” vs. “after.” It’s not that the “after” is better, it’s that it’s DIFFERENT. I’m not the same person I was when I initially designed this space seven years ago, so why shouldn’t my home reflect my growth of home decorating? You don’t have to change a room because it’s bad. Sometimes you can change it because you simply want a change.

The reason I wanted to change the room, if I were to be honest, when I looked into the living room the white furniture in the kitchen didn’t flow with any room in our home.

Painting the furniture was the inexpensive way to connect a room to the next, when each room flows together it creates a sense of harmony and balance.

I painted the hutch first with Dovetail by Sherwin Williams.

Since I was painting the hutch, I decided to do a two-toned finish. I applied stained bead board to the back and painting the rest with the Dovetail. The contrast draws the eye to the display area and makes the decor pieces stand out even better.

Next up to paint, the bench and window frame along with the HOME wall plaque.

I painted the items with Black Magic by Glidden.  I think black furniture is as classic as white. It’s so stunning and can make such an amazing statement piece in any room. Don’t you agree?

The table and chairs were the last to be painted.

It’s amazing how much a fresh coat of paint can completely transform a piece of furniture.

More than any other type of furniture, tables tend to have classic shapes that really hold up over time. Even though my table is distinctly 1980s, its shapes continue to look beautiful through the years.

Things I changed in the room, first we will talk about the curtains.

Floor to ceiling curtains adds drama and height to the space but also makes it appear larger. I choose curtains in a solid color to maintain a sleek and sophisticated look.

I purchased an extra long black curtain rod to replace the white rod.  The new rod went corner to corner.

Extending your draperies from wall to wall surrounding your window makes them appear bigger, I used 3 panels of Lush Décor Ivy Tassel Window Curtain to each side.

Next up to be changed was the light fixture.

I went with matte black Modern Chandelier because it adds a touch of sophistication to the room. Since I have other metals in the room, matte black enhances their appearance.

The last thing I changed was the runner in front of the door.  I went with a Non Slip Machine Washable Vintage found on Amazon.
