HALLWAY REFRESH – MAKE THE MOST OF A NARROW SPACE

Well, I definitely started the year off with room refreshes, and man does it feel good knowing I am working on having a home that flows from room to room!

This refresh will be in the hallway that leads to all three of our guest bedrooms (one being my craft room). I have walk through my hallway several times a day, always thinking this doesn’t match the rest of our home style.  After leaving the space never gave it a thought again.  Today is the day I gave it some changes.

Check out the hallway’s main wall before…

Our hallway is not the typical narrow hallway, when we built our home, the contractor recommended we make it wheelchair assessable.  I am so happy we took his advice, not because we need a wheelchair, but it allows a little more space for me to style.

First thing I need to do is to remove everything off the walls, cleaned from top to bottom.  Now it’s ready to be refreshed!

Since the family room has a wide opening into the hallway, I want a seamless flow between the two spaces.  I have to keep in mind the function of the hallway but still add visual interest without making it feel cramped or cluttered.

So, for this refresh, I am going to shop our home and use things I already have.  No painting the walls or buying anything new.

With all of my projects, I like to create a mood board.  A mood board helps me gather all of thoughts and ideas into one place, making it easier for me to make creative decisions later in the process.

Hallway Refresh

I took down my 9 square frames from the family room wall and moved them to the hallway wall.

The black frames repeat the same color I used in the family room.   It also makes the space feel more personal.

Instead, of centering the grouping on the wall, I centered it with the doorway to create a symmetry look when looking into the doorway from the family room.

Even though it isn’t center with the wall, it doesn’t look odd when looking down the hallway.

Underneath the frames I decided to place my DIY Skinny Bench.  This was sitting in the playroom/guest bedroom.

A bench is an incredibly versatile piece of furniture that can be used in any space, no matter its size or style. Besides offering a chance to showcase your style it creates a warm and welcoming feel.

Styling a throw, coffee table book and a DIY aged vase to the bench to complete the space I had visioned.

Let’s talk about the vase I placed on the bench.  I had two ginger jars that I didn’t like the style any longer.  So, I changed them up to fit my home style today.

Here’s a quick view of the changes I made to the taller vase, I will be working on the smaller one soon.  To get the full tutorial on how I painted my revamped ginger jar you can see it all here. Jug Dupe

And here is the end result.

One last look at the space before.

And now…

The hallway sat for a long time with a mismatch style.  But with a little thought and some minor changes it became another refresh success.

The bench is just for aesthetic purposes because no one would sit there, but I love the way it adds texture and dimension to this space.

I hope I inspired you to style your narrow hallway. So, don’t let your hallway be just a path from one room to another.  Let me know in the comments your thoughts about my hallway!
