Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a great weekend? I had a good weekend working around the house decorating for Christmas. I got a good bit of decorating done. All I have now is just the main rooms to decorate….with that being said, the main rooms takes me the longest to do.
Today I wanted to share with you two things. First…a DIY that I did over the weekend and second…the last of the 3 guest bedrooms dressed for Christmas.
I love trays sitting on a bed. It’s not really practical but so darn cute. I decided to make a tray that I can use when I want to work on my laptop in bed or even on the couch. Here is the one I made. Very…Very easy.
What do you think? Isn’t it so cute? I can’t wait for you to see it in my guest bedroom.
I thought maybe if I show you how I made the tray you would like to make one for yourself…or with Christmas coming make one for someone and give it as a gift.
The supplies you will need:
- 2″ X 10″ X 24″ board
- 4 furniture legs. I found mine at Lowe’s. There are different styles and sizes.
- 4 furniture leg plates. Also at Lowe’s
- stain or paint
- clean cloth
- sandpaper
- screwdriver
We had on hand a piece of board that I could use. I had my hubby cut it to size and I sanded the edges. I also gave the whole thing a quick sanding.
Wiped the board down with a damp cloth to remove all the sand dust. I stained my board and legs but you can easily paint the parts.
After your stain (or paint) dries attach the plates to the board. I attached all four of the plates to the corners.
TIP: Make sure you purchase the flat plates and not the angle plates. You want the legs to be straight and not angled out. I purchased the angled plates ( package B) I had to run back and exchange them for package A.
Now add the legs to the plates.
That’s it. It is real easy to make. I had the board and stain on hand all I had to get was the plates and legs. Total cost for me $21 and some change. I love it!
Now that I shared with you how I made my lap tray let’s go tour the last of my three guest bedrooms. In this room I styled my DIY lap tray.
The room’s theme is Christmas plaid.
I wasn’t for sure what the theme of the room would be this year until I saw a throw pillow at TjMaxx. I fell in love with the pillow and worked the theme around that.
Have you seen the hot item this year the little vintage red truck with a Christmas tree? Well, that’s what I found on a pillow and I purchase it. I just love it.
Let’s tour the room.
This is the view when standing in the doorway.
Don’t you just love the lap tray???? And what about my pillow? How cute!
On the tray I placed a plaid mug, a believe wooden sign and a Christmas tree. I purchased the red pillow covers on Amazon. I went crazy buying pillow covers this year, but didn’t hurt the wallet! The pillow covers will be so easy to store for the year. Just fold them up and store them in a drawer. And for just a few dollars….WOW!
I placed a Santa picture above the bed. I purchased the framed Santa years ago from Kirkland’s. I placed two Christmas wreaths with a plaid bow on each side of the picture.
Remember my DIY blanket ladder? If you are just now joining me you can go check out how I made the blanket ladder HERE. I just added a strand of lights to one side.
I found the little mug at the Dollar Tree….How adorable is that! I added the greenery to make a little arrangement. The plaid candle holder I found at Wal-greens.
I found the snow globe at Ross store.
The painted wood sign I had for a couple years now. I got that at a warehouse store in our city.
The little wooden skates I had also for several years. I forgot where I purchased them.
This is the other side of the room.
On the chair I placed a cozy blanket and a plaid pillow with some faux fur trim. Found that at TjMaxx.
The framed snowy city picture was purchased years ago from Kirkland’s.
I placed some red and silver bells in a little jewel box. The Santa I had several years ago. I want to say I purchased that at Kirkland’s.
I purchased the little vintage car the same place I found the pillow. The little car sits on a faux book.
I took a small framed mirror and placed a metal little sign in the center.
The planters, I will share with you tomorrow on my Facebook page how simple it was to make them.
I sat a little greenery along with some berries in between the two planters. The little gift box was also purchased from Kirkland’s years ago.
I had the two little hide and seek children I purchased from a catalog called ABC Distributing. It changed it’s name and now is called LTD Commodities. They are just adorable. I placed the little girl in one of the corners and placed him under the table.
Let’s talk about the tree.
My theme as you already know is Christmas plaid.
My accent ornaments are red and finishing the tree up with country ornaments.
Tree Topper
I used flannel plaid ribbon and just did a large loop bow. I place twigs in the top.
The ribbon I wrapped and tucked around the tree.
I found picks at the Dollar Tree. They also carry different styles.
I placed them in the tree, same technique as normal. If you missed the post on how I decorate my tree you can go HERE.
Bedding
On the bed I placed my Christmas quilt and shams facing the back side up. The quilt has a pattern print which wouldn’t work with the theme.
I placed a DIY plaid comforter to the foot of the bed.
TIP: If you don’t want to go out and buy a Christmas bedding set. Use what you have by turning your bedding over and use the back of the quilt or comforter. That’s what I did.
On the shams where you insert the pillow filler, I placed 4 buttons to hide the opening.
Did you know this was a DIY makeover bedding set?
The red plaid comforter is a table cloth that I made into a duvet. I placed my every day comforter inside. You can buy a long tablecloth and sew the two sides together. I left the ends open. I hand based a slip stitch so all I have to do is cut the stitches out after the holidays. This way the table cloth will not be damaged.
Let’s look back at my three guest bedrooms all dress up for the Christmas season!
As always, thank you so very much for stopping by. Come back here on Wednesday to tour my foyer and dining room. I am excited on showing you my tree and my tablescape.

Stay strong and stay blessed!
