THRIFT STORE CHALLENGE – CHRISTMAS JOY

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Thrift Store Challenge!  This month I have teamed up with 3 other thrifters, Tara, Emily and Cecilia.  I will post the links to their blogs at the end of my page.  The rules were simple–take your item(s) from a thrift store and transform them into a Christmas home decor.  Using only thrift store items and can add things you already have.  There was no budget on this challenge just make it budget friendly, so we let our creative juices flow!

For my project I ran to my favorite go to place and shopped for my challenge items.  I try to make a Habitat run every other day.   Seriously, updating our daughter’s home it is a must.  I just found paint for $10 a gallon there it has never been open!  Anyway…back to my challenge. 🙂  I found some really cute items.  A Santa sleigh, blush ornaments and 3 wooden 8 x 10 picture frames to use for my challenge.

I know I don’t need to tell y’all that I brought them home and gave them all a makeover. 🙂

Starting with the sleigh.  I picked this little baby up for $5.00.  It is a metal sleigh and in great condition.  I am going to give it a quick spray of Rust-oleum white paint.

It looks so much better already!

I am taking my Ballet Slipper pink, spruce, metallic silver and a paint brush to start painting the decorative pieces.  I am doing the berry clumps in the silver first.

For the leaves I used the spruce and the ribbon I painted pink.

I think it looks pretty like it is, but I want a little more sparkle to it.  I took my iridescent glitter and added to all of the decorative pieces with mod podge.

I think it looks so much better!  Now using my faux fur I am going to add to the edge of the sleigh with hot glue.

I have used the glitter and faux fur on several of my DIY projects this season and still have a lot of glitter left, the fur I did used the last of it on the sleigh. 🙁

I grabbed my iridescent pink ribbon and added two bows to the front of the sleigh.

I placed two packages and the thrift store blush ornaments inside the sliegh.

For the next item, I grabbed the 3 wooden 8 x 10 picture frames.  I purchased for 50¢ each.  The glass was missing, but on this project I won’t be needing the glass anyway.

I gave them two coats of white paint.  Well…of course I did!

Took the back of the frames and glued a pretty iridescent card stock to the three of them.

I had 5″ wood letters  J – O – Y   I was going to use on another project, but decided to use on this project.

I am using Krylon Faiytale pink to spray the letters.  I attached the painted letters to the center of the card stock frame backing.

I added some rhinestone embellishments to the letters with some jewel glue.

I am only doing a few lines on the J and Y.  After I glued the jewels onto the letters I applied some hot glue to the frame and put the back into each frame.

I replaced my DIY chevron arrows with the DIY Joy frames.  If you missed the tutorial on the chevrons you can check that out {{HERE}}.

Doesn’t it look cute?

I put the three thrift items together and made a little Christmas vignette.   I just love how this looks.  I won’t lie it did take some time painting the items, but seriously look at how it turned out…don’t you think it was worth it?  I do!

Just about everything you see here was purchased from a thrift store.  And yes all has been given a makeover.  The chair was a pitiful site.  I refinished the seat and gave it a couple different coats of paint, the books sitting on the chair, thrift store purchases, I ripped off the covers and tied a ribbon and twine around them, the shutter has been painted a couple colors, it has been cut in half and as of now pieced back together.  The candle holders I shared with you how I gave them a makeover.  You can go {{HERE}} to check what they looked like before.
