Hey there! Welcome back to this month’s Top Shelf Clearance Challenge. Valentines’s Day is what we are looking for on the clearance shelves. I am teaming up with 2 sweet friends, Tara over at Stilettosandshiplap and Emily from LeCultivateur with our monthly challenge to find a $15 clearance item or items. We invite 2 new blogging friends to join the fun each month. Meet Jodi over at The HOUSE house and Diahann from 1 Vintage Flicker they are our guests this month. This edition will be all about A Piece of the Heart. If you missed our past Top Shelf Clearance challenges you can catch up {{HERE}}. I have linked all their blogs at the bottom of my post.

I have been eyeing these two string art frames in TjMaxx for a long while. I wasn’t going to pay what was marked on the clearance sticker even at half priced. I kept going in there just waiting for the mark down. Well….they finally marked down each of them with a price that I was willing to spend.
The white background frame was broken. No problem, I can fix that and I didn’t want the white and the blue background. You know I never keep anything the same, do I? 🙂 So I am going to fix and change.
OK, I know that the challenge was for $15 or under. I will only count one frame. 🙂 Let me show you how I made both frames work for me for about half the price of just one of them at regular price.
To fix the broken frame I took it apart. Starting by removing the wall bracket.
To remove the back I had to cut the black velvet around the fame. I used my craft knife.
Pulling the back off of the frame.
Now that I have the back off, I removed the side part of the background.
To remove the glass I had to remove the glue.
Now I can work on the frame. I used my Power Grab and put the frame back together and used bungee cords to keep it tight in place.
Letting that sit over night, in the meantime I am pulling the white material off the back.
I am replacing it with some burlap material. I found it at Hobby Lobby using my 40% coupon. I got a yard which is a lot more than I needed, but I wanted to make sure I had enough just in case. 🙂
I cut the material to the size of the back board using 3M adhesive spray to attach the material.
I trimmed the excess off.
Putting that aside for now. I am working on the frame again now that it is dry. I need to paint the frame since it had some scratches on it. I am using white chalk paint.
I let that dry and turned to the little side pieces of the background. Since they are so small instead of applying material to them I am painting with Walnut chalk paint.
Now I will put it all back together. Taking the frame and laying it down.
Placing both glass panes inside the frame as they were before. I am cleaning the glass in between to remove all the finger prints.
The string art is on the front of one of the panes. It sits between the two glass panes.
Now adding glue to secure the glass in place.
Placing the painted little background pieces back on the sides of the frame. I am using hot glue.
I placed the back on the frame and attached it with staples.
Attaching the wall bracket back on the frame.
Removed the price tags and cleaned the glass. I did the same thing to the blue background frame, but didn’t have to fix the frame.
You can barely tell where the frame was mended.
Now making this a Valentine’s display, even though they were pulling at my heart for a long time until the store dropped the price. That should be Pieces of the Heart as it stands.
I will show you where my chevron arrow wall decor went on Friday’s blog. When I reveal my daughter’s bathroom makeover….YES! We are done! 🙂 If you missed my tutorial on how I made the Chevrons you can check that out DIY Chevrons Arrow.
Giving you a close up shot of the frame and how the little side pieces needed to be the color of the background. I think painting them Walnut was pretty close to the burlap material. Don’t you think?
Now for the Piece of the Heart challenge. I am adding some Valentine’s love with my wall art.
