When decorating the kitchen, for any season I go right to the kitchen hutch. Of course it’s the largest piece in the room to decorate. Have you seen what my hutch looked like in it’s earlier years? Here’s how I had it decorated one year for Christmas.
It looks totally different back in Christmas 2001 than it does today. Here is my hutch for Christmas 2020.
I am decorating my kitchen in the colors red and black. Not a typical color combo I have decorated with, but when I found this wooden star sign at TjMaxx I decided to go with the colors in the kitchen. Not sure what I would use on my hutch that would work with the star pattern but it inspired me to use it. Behind the star I placed my DIY Joy canvas.
Changing the hutch’s decoration is easy by adding seasonal picks or tying a colorful ribbon to my white dishes.
I added a few new items but mostly I decorated with things I already had. My cute Santa tea pot and snowman pitcher was taken from the back of my cabinet to place on the shelves, they blend nicely with the color palette.
Another way I changed things up was by changing the material on the trees. Very easy to do, I cut a square from a piece of material, gathered it together at the top and tied it with a piece of twine. Easy peasy!
I also added a small piece of material to the base of my bottle brushed trees.
I’ve said this in season past, dish towels are an inexpensive way to use in styling. I’ve actually never used them I purchased them for decorating! On the tray I placed two little red and black check snowflakes, they were a Dollar General find. The little wooden have yourself a merry little Christmas was a TjMaxx find. The towels were found at varies different places.
Adding a simple Christmas garland with ribbon was all it needed. I might add lights to it a little later, but for now it looks good.
Now my hutch is finished, on to the rest of the room, which I will be sharing with you soon!
Let’s talk about some of the items I styled on my hutch. In case you want to know where you can find similar items I styled on my hutch, I found some.
Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
