For my craft today I am sharing another framed sign. This can be made to fit any size you want. I have seen so many cute Christmas signs this year, the one I am sharing you can easily style with another piece of art.
Supplies I will be using
- a 5 x 7 Dollar Tree canvas
- 2 sizes of Dollar Tree washy tape
- black, red and white craft paint
- staple gun and staples
After I took the canvas out of the package I removed the staples and canvas from the frame.
I placed the canvas to the side to work on painting the frame. I am painting the entire frame, front and back with Apple Barrel black craft paint.
While the frame is drying I am working on the canvas. I cut the canvas on the first fold line.
On the front side of the canvas I measured where I wanted my lines. I decided making the lines on the right side and on top of the canvas.
How to make the stripes
- Using washy tape in two sizes
- Taking the wider of the two, placing it down the right side and top of the canvas
- Taking the thinner tape, placing two strips down each side of the wider tape
- Rub firmly on the tape to make sure it is attached to the canvas
To seal the edges of the washy tape I am giving one coat of Waverly chalk paint in Plaster over the taped area.
After the paint dried I gave the canvas two coats of Apple Barrel craft paint in the color Cardinal Red, letting the first coat dry thoroughly.
Right after painting the second coat, I peeled the washy tape off of the canvas.
Where the red bled through I touched up with the Plaster chalk paint. I let the paint dry thoroughly.
I searched on google for a Christmas wording to place on my sign, once I found the right saying I printed it off and resized it to fit my sign. I took a pencil and filled the back side of my wording to cover the entire area, placed it on my sign and traced the wording with a pen.
Taking a very fine bristle brush and Waverly chalk paint in Plaster I painted over the wording.
I attached the canvas to the backside of the frame. Print side facing down into the frame.
Using my staple gun I attached the canvas to the frame. Making sure to keep the canvas tight.
I added a matt sealer to the entire canvas and frame.
For just one dollar I am so happy how this turned out. I will be styling it in my hutch for Christmas.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
