Hello friends! Today’s blog is about our garbage disposal and the drains in the kitchen. Are they on your spring cleaning list to clean? They weren’t on mine until today. I am sharing a cleaning duty to add to your kitchen’s cleaning list.
I just read where we need to clean our garbage disposal. The reason we need to do this, grease can buildup causing back up in our kitchen sink drains. We are going to help clean the drains so that doesn’t happen. Not only is it easy to do, it’s quick as well. Today I am going to share with you just how to do this.
The items you will need are:
- 1/2 cup of baking soda
- 1 cup of vinegar
- A pan full of hot water
- 4 cups of ice cubes
- 1 lemon or orange
- 15 to 20 minutes
Let’s get started!
Fill a saucepan with water. Bring the water to a boil.
While the water is getting hot, take 1/2 cup of baking soda and pour down your garbage disposal drain.
Pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain.
Let it fizzle for a few minutes.
When it stops fizzling, pour the hot water into the drain and let sit for 5 minutes.
Cut any citrus fruit that you choose in little pieces and drop in the drain along with the ice cubes. I am using an orange since that’s what I had on hand.
Grinding up ice cubes will clean the disposer blades and tossing in a few slices of citrus fruit helps kill odors.
Run cold water and the garbage disposal until the fruit and ice are chopped up and gone. Run the water a little longer after you turn off the garbage disposal.
Now let’s clean the rubber splash guard.
If your guard can be removed that would be so easy to clean. Take it out and give it a good cleaning. Mine does not so I use a toothbrush, baking soda and vinegar to clean mine. I scrub the bottom and top until all is clean.
That’s it. Now we can start another duty in our Spring cleaning routine!
Thank you for stopping by. I hope this cleaning tip inspired you to clean your garbage disposal and drain. This was a great tip that I learned and will be doing this regularly.
