This week has been crazy busy here in the craft room.  I wanted to get 4 pieces of furniture painted and the wall decor above the pieces.  Whew, another week of progress was made!

If you want to stain a previously painted piece of furniture, check out this tutorial where I show you how easy it is to create a piece to look wood stained.

Supplies you will need:

• drop cloth
• rubber gloves
• chalk paint (I am using antique white)
• chip brush
• small hand broom
• wood stain or wood gel stain or dark glaze
• polyurethane
• sponge paint brush
• 220 grit sandpaper
• damp cloth

First part of this project is lightly sand the whole piece with 220 grit sandpaper.  This is not to sand off the existing paint, just rough the surface up.  Wipe down the whole piece with a damp cloth.

With the chalk paint and chip brush apply the paint.

Once the area has been painted, with the chip brush sweep the area in long steady stokes.  This should resemble the wood grain.

Apply the paint to the entire piece with this technique.

Apply the second coat the same way.  Let dry hour 2 to 3 full hours.

The next day, apply the stain or glaze to your piece.  Using a chip brush, apply stain in small sections at a time.

I am using penetrating Minwax stain, color provincial.

♦Warning when using this type of stain, it takes a lot longer to dry than the gel stain or glaze.♦

Take your chip brush and again making long even strokes.

Now take the handheld broom, with a long sweeping stroke smooth out the glaze.

Keep sweeping until you get the look you want.

Since I used the penetrating stain, it took 3 days to dry before adding a topcoat of polyurethane.  I used a sponge brush to apply the coat of poly.

I can mark off the 4 pieces of furniture from my to-do list. √

Next on my list, my two trunks where I keep all of my seasonal candles.

The last project I wanted to get done this week was paint all the wall decor.  Painted most of the pieces black.

The Cricut Station

I was going to leave the peg board white but decided to paint it the color of the wall paint.  I think it looks better.

The mirror’s frame I painted it Steely Gray by Sherwin Williams.

The Candle Cabinet

Above the cabinet I used to have three DIY frames, I decided to add the clearance frame painted instead.  I painted the wooden decal on the cabinet black and a little gold leaf rub and buff to it.  I like it a lot.

I did organize the candles in the cabinet!

The Sewing Station

Again, I was going to leave the linen material on the bulletin board, but once I painted the pegboard the wall color, I needed to change the material on the bulletin board.  It’s always a domino effect with me!

Using the material for the drape I purchased from Ollie’s, the same curtain panel I used for my sewing machine cover.

I painted the wooden craft box with the steely gray.

The Wrapping Station

To the wall folder organizers, I spray painted them both inside and out with flat black spray paint.  I stained a wicker ribbon I had on hand to match the furniture.

I love how the ribbon looks on the black file organizers.

This will complete week 2 here in the craft room.
