DIY FLOWING WATER GARDEN DECOR

Today, I am sharing how I took fairy solar lights and a garden pail to make something cute for our flower garden.

I am using a metal water pail I had on hand, solar fairy lights, two zip ties and a Dollar Tree Shepard’s hook.

I had Mr. Tip take my metal pitcher and drill two holes, one in the bottom and one in the bottom of the spout.

I unraveled my strand of lights measuring 36″ per section.

Carefully bending the strand, measuring another 36″ creating two 36″ strands.  I repeated this step until I came to the controller wire.

To add the pail to the Shepard’s hook

  • I took a zip tip threading it into the inside bottom drilled hole
  • wrapped it around the hook
  • back into the drilled hole
  • zipping it tight.

I added the lights to the spout I did the same thing with the zip tie as I did with the hook, but threading it from the outside in.

  • using the end without the controller
  • thread the zip tie through the drilled hole
  • wrapping it around the strand of lights
  • back through the drilled hole
  • zipping it tight
  • cut off the excess tie.

Untangle the fairy lights.

Arrange the fairy lights on your plant of choice.

I made sure I place the solar charger where it can get plenty of sunshine.  I covered up the exposed wire with mulch.

Doesn’t it look like the water flowing from the watering can?

  2. Terrie, this turned out so cute! Your tutorial answers “how did they do that!?” Simple and affordable projects are the best! I love the watering can with the watering lights. Would look nice in a large pot on my deck. Hmmm…another light project I think. LOL

    1. I am so glad I tried this, it is adorable and very easy to do. We will enjoy this for a long time. Thanks Kelli….happy creating.

  3. This is very cute. I have seen this before and always think they are adorable. We don’t have areas in our yard where solar light make sense. I wish we had a covered area to make a chandelier because I love them.

    1. That’s a shame you don’t have use for solar lights. The chandeliers that the girls shared are pretty. I would love to have one of those myself. Thanks for visiting us my friend!

  4. The picture with lights is adorable! You have such good ideas! Once I finally get rid of all the weeds in the gardens, this would be a good project to add some color. I called the trash people to arrange an extra pickup and at the end of the conversation the fellow asked if he could help me with anything else. I told him he could come and help me weed. He just chuckled.

    1. You made me chuckled too Donna! Thank you so much. I love how the lights twinkle, it looks really cute at dusk. Thanks again for all your visits!

  5. Terrie I love this! So cute. I love how magical a garden looks lit up at night and this definitely falls into that category. Thanks so much for sharing. Great job!

    1. You are so welcome my friend! It does look so pretty right before it gets dark. We are going to move it to a better spot, once we get out and plant flowers. It does light up and love how it twinkles like real water is flowing out of the can.
