In my craft room I have been taking the time to research for each need and want I place in the craft room, I need something to store my tapes on.  Mr. Tip has all of his tapes up on the peg board on a long arm piece.  Looks nice and tidy but a pain when you try to grab what you need, they all fall off the arm unless you want the first roll of tape.

I didn’t want that for my craft room so I searched for a better solution.   This is what I came up with, I l♥ve my solution!

Below is how I made my tape storage shelf.

Tape Storage Shelf

Supplies used

• two pieces of scrap wood 5″ x 8″
• a piece of wood trim size 2″ x 24″
• three 24″ dowel rods
• drill and drill bit the size of your dowel rod
• wood glue
• nail gun

Step 1

•   Taking the two pieces of 5″ x 8″ of wood and cut one of the sides to form a slant.  If you need the measurements I used click here → PATTERN

 

Step 2

• Drill three holes half way through your board with a drill bit the size of your dowel rod.

Placement of the holes

1. measure ½ inch up from the bottom corner on the straight side
2. measure ½ inch up from the bottom center
3. 2 inches up from the front bottom corner on the slant side.

Step 3

• Add wood glue inside of all 3 of the drilled holes.

Step 4

• Tap all three of the dowel rods inside the drilled holes.

Step 5

• Do the same thing with the other side panel.

Step 6

Add a back brace to the back of the shelf.  I am using a piece of trim left over from my storage unit.  I cut the trim to 24 inches. Using wood glue and a nail gun to secure the side panel to the back brace.

Step 7

Secure the rods to the side panels with the nail gun.

It works perfect!  Creating a little curve to the front dowel rod holds the tape inside.  Pretty cool huh?

Step 8

• Paint your shelf.  You can stand it or add wall hooks to hang on the wall like I did.

I added a hook to one side of my shelf to store my paint can openers.  I could never find them before and ended up using a screwdriver to open my can of paint.

I also made my paint brush holder to store all of my craft paint brushes.

Steps were so simple.

1. I took a scrap piece of wood, cut into 4 pieces – Two pieces the same size and two pieces shorter the same size  (measurements depends on how many brushes you have)
2. I used wood glue and a nail gun to attach the four pieces together
3. Made a grid on the top to give me a pattern where to drill my holes ( I used a large drill bit to allow a couple of brushes to fit inside the hole.
4. Filled in all the gaps with wood filler
5. Sanded the entire piece
6. Painted mine white

This also works perfectly, don’t you agree?

I am going to be so happy when working in my craft room, it will be so easy to grab what I need when working on a project.
