Before you leave…..we need to get to our DIY for today!!! Geez!

I want to share with you how I made my velvet pumpkins.  Maybe you will want to make your very own for the fall season!

I  had the hardest time finding plush velvet.  I did find the cranberry color which looks real pretty with the orange fall plaid I paired it with.

Items you will need:

• fabric of your choice.  Depending on the size you want to make will determine how much fabric you need.  I purchased 1/2 of a yard each pattern and had enough to make 3 and still have some left.
• matching thread
• needle
• pumpkin stems.  You could make your own which I will have a tutorial on that coming very soon or you can buy a pumpkin pick like I did for the two I am going to make.
• poly fill
• dry beans or rice
• scissors
• hot glue and hot glue gun
• thimble

Let’s get started!

Determine what size you want your pumpkin to be.  For the velvet pumpkin I cut out a 16 inch circle and for the plaid an 18 inch circle.

Thread your needle by doubling your thread.

I just started weaving the needle in and out of the fabric until I went around the whole outer edge.

Pull your thread to cause the material to gather to form a bag.  Do not cut your thread leave it in the material.

Now to fill the bag with something that will be a base to have your pumpkin sit properly.  I am using dry beans.  You want the base filler to fill the whole bottom.  Mine took 1 cup.

I took filler and stuffed it full.  Making sure I took small pieces at a time.  Doing that helps the pumpkin not ball up.

Fill it as much as you can.

Then pull your thread and gather it closed.

I tied several knots together to keep it from slipping out.  I then started sewing the opening closed.

Secure your thread with several knots.   Do not cut your thread.

One last step….You might want to grab your thimble for this step.  Take your needle and place it in the center pushing all the way through your pumpkin until it pokes out the center bottom.  Pull it tight and pull it through the bottom up through the top.  Do this step a couple times.

You want it to look tufted.

I purchased small little pumpkins at Hobby Lobby just for the cute stem.  They were 40% off.   I pulled the stem off of the pumpkin to use for my DIY pumpkin.

I place some hot glue in the center and poke the stem inside making sure it was in the center of the pumpkin.

And that’s it.  I fluff around to make the shape I wanted it.  Looks pretty good for my very first velvet pumpkin.
