Have you seen something in someone else’s home and just have to have something like that in your own home? It happens all the time with me, I saw this window frame in an Instagram account’s feed over a year ago and fell in love with it. I would love to have one in our kitchen, I haven’t found one the size I need so I thought how hard would it be to make one? I have enough scrap wood to make it.
So that’s what I did, I drew out a rough draft of a window in the size I wanted, 5′ x 3′ window. That part was pretty easy, but finding out how to space the grids of the window was a whole different task. I had Mr. Tip help me on that part. He did very well with figuring out the measurements for each space. I wished I would of taken more interest in algebra. 🙂 Here is the diagram of my window frame.
Below are the measurements of each board:
- two 1 x 4 cut at 5′
- three 1x 4 cut at 30″
- two square trim pieces cut at 36″
- two square trim pieces cut at 12.5″
- six square trim pieces cut at 9.75″
I used 8 L corner brackets and 4 straight brackets along with wood glue to attach my 1″ x 4″ boards together to create the frame.
To attached the grid of the window I used wood glue and heavy duty staples.
I went back and forth on painting or staining the window frame. I decided to paint it with Benjamin Moore in the color Dove, it’s the paint color of the table, chairs and hutch.
To give the window some details I added 3 nickel coat hooks plus this will give me places to hang decorations on.
I couldn’t be more happier with my window frame. By looking at the frame you would never know I built this myself. I know, I am patting my own back, but look how great this looks up on the wall in the kitchen!!

Stay strong and God bless! ♥
Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
What a great idea! It looks amazing!
Thank you Michelle.
This looks wonderful. It’s performed your kitchen. You make look so easy.
Hey there Sue. Thank you. It was pretty easy after Jim figured out the measurements. Thanks for stopping by.
So cute! It’s perfect for that spot. Great job Terrie!
Thank you Tammy!!
I used to have a couple of window frames that I ‘inherited’ from our family farm. I just loved the vintage charm they added to any space. Great job on creating your own, Terrie!
Thanks Christine. I love using them too, they can be styled in any style of home. I agree they do add charm to your home.
Go ahead and pat yourself on the back😂
That is super cute!
Thanks, I had to pat myself on the back because I wasn’t for sure how it was going to turn out. So happy I stuck with it and I had hubby’s help with the math. 🙂
Your window frame looks fabulous, Terrie! It is quite chic and trendy! You are so lucky to have had help in making one! I love how it looks in your kitchen area! And you can have fun switching up items to decorate it for special occasions and holidays, too!
Thank you Gail. I wouldn’t of been able to figure out the dimensions as fast as my husband so I am lucky he was there to do that part. Thanks Gail. Yes…I am excited to be decorating this part of the kitchen.
Wow Terrie! This came out so amazing! Love it.
I am excited and thrilled how it turned out, you just never know until you try. ha! I would still be making it if it wasn’t for hubby and the measurements for the grids, that was easy for him but not for me. I love it too!
I love your window frame, beautiful… I took an old mirror that looked like a window and removed the glass… I used fishing line to attach a huge plastic snowflake and wound battery lights around it and hung it on my front door… Love this look…. 🙂
Debbie that sounds amazing. I would love to see how you did that. Thank you sweet friend, I love how my window frame turned out!
Wow, my friend this is amazing! I have been there when seeing something and would love to add it to the home.
Pinned!
Thanks Cindy! I think we all want things we see, that’s what inspiration is all about. Have a great day!
