Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip! It’s the first Wednesday of the month, which means it’s time for the monthly DIY Challenge. For this month’s theme we are working with craft wood. Have you ever walked down the craft aisle and looked at all the Wood craft supplies and wondered what you could create out of it? Well, today’s challenge we will be sharing inspiration on just that.
To check out all my past DIY Challenges you can view here → DIY CHALLENGES.
I purchased a whitewashed framed wood piece from Hobby Lobby around Easter time for the mantel. I am using the same piece, changing it up to go on a shelf for Fall. Just in time, this week Hobby Lobby is running their wood craft supplies 50% off.

For a shelf in our laundry room I took my frame, two Dollar Tree items and craft paint to create a sign.
I took Terracotta craft paint and painted the back of the frame.
DIY Blessed Fall Sign
Next, I took the Dollar Tree wall decal and I cut out the wording. You could also can use your Cricut and create your own wording.
I applied the blessed decal to the bottom of my sign, using my Cricut roller making sure it is all adhered to the sign.
I took a Dollar Tree Fall wall hanger and separated the two leaves.
Taking the larger of the two leaves, traced around the leave with a pencil, leaving off the stem.
I took the smaller leaf and carefully removed the pattern paper off the cardboard. Started at the points of the leaf slowly.
I applied the paper to the frame with wallpaper paste.
I painted the larger leaf and lettering with parchment.
Trying the technique Tammy over at Patina and Paint shared in one of her videos on her pumpkins. If you haven’t seen Tammy’s tutorial click here → PUMPKIN PAINTING. So I grabbed 4 different colors. Spice red, terracotta, evergreen and parchment to try out the technique. I just loved how this turned out.
Placed a little dab of each color to a plate.
Dipped my brush in the parchment and then in each other color. Applied it to the leaf in a shallow C shape.
I did the same with the little stem but only used the parchment and evergreen paint.
Let the paint dry and then sealed it with polycrylic.
Displayed my Blessed sign up on my shelf.

Thanks Niky, I love working with Dollar Tree items to share inspiration. I am happy you like my sign. Thanks for hopping with us Niky!
Very cute sign, Terrie. I love the mix of colors and the layering of materials. I never think to decorate my laundry room. Thanks for the suggestion and hosting.
Thanks Carol. The laundry room is used more than our front entryway so I do like to add a little bit of decor in there as well. So happy to hop with you!
I love the paint technique. Really softened the whole look. Perfect fall decor piece. Need to learn this skill! Did you trace the lettering and then paint white? Somehow I missed that step.
Thanks Kelli. I did trace over the wall decal in the white craft paint and painted it all in. I like black but I wanted a white and orange sign. Not sure if I shared the painting words but did mention I painted over the wording.
As always I am amzaed at what you can create from something. Turned out so pretty!
Thanks Corine. I love to create sometimes it turns out and sometimes it doesn’t, but you never know until you try, right? Thanks again for joining us this month. Always love working with you!
