Lazy Susan Tutorial
I am going to show you how easy it is to build your own turn table tray.
Supplies you will need:
- A 16″ and 13″ wooden round
- Lazy Susan hardware
- drill
- 8 wood screws (the size depends on the thickness of your wood rounds)
- pencil
- tape measure
- paint
I cut my wood rounds with scrap wood, if you don’t want to cut your wooden rounds yourself, you can purchase your pieces.
Center the hardware onto the 13″-piece, mark predrilled holes onto the board.
- With a pencil mark the 4-bottom part of the hardware onto the round.
- Move the top plate where the large hole is in the center of the bottom plate, mark.
Center the hardware to one side of the 16″ round and mark the 4 holes the same way.
Predrill on the marks.
Use a larger drill bit, large enough to allow a screwdriver to go throw to the larger mark on the 13″ board.
Attach the hardware with 4 wood screws to the predrilled holes on the 13″ round. This is the time to paint or stain the inner part of the rounds.
Attached the top piece to the bottom piece with screws, by using the large, drilled hole. Lining up the predrilled holes with the bracket.
That’s all you have to do to build your turn table.
Paint the top and sides of your turn table; I am painting mine white and then adding a coat of Antique wax.
Lastly, I placed furniture pads to the bottom part of my turn table to protect my surfaces I place it on.
I can’t wait to use my turn table on my next painting project!

This is such a great DIY! You always come up with the best ideas! I have always wanted to make one of these!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I’m definitely going to try this!!!
Thanks Emily. I am going to enjoy this next time I am painting a project. I needed a turn table to be able to paint a small item with ease. I am glad you were inspired.
That turned out great. I could use a couple of these in different places.
Thanks Denise. I am going to use mine for painting projects. I have needed this for a while now. But using it other places will be a plus.
Another amazing project. This is beautiful. I hope the baby is feeling better.
Thanks Cindy, she is feeling so much better today!
Terrie, what an easy project that can be used in so many ways. I really like the finish you used. The plant looks great on the lazy Susan. Thanks so much for hosting.
Thanks Carol. I think a turn table will be so handy in whatever your needs are, for me I will be using it for a painting tool. So easy to turn! 🙂
Great tutorial .. I’ve always wanted to do one of these .. You present it so simple and east for any one to do ..
Thanks for all the details !!
Teresa 😊
Thanks Teresa. I mostly made it for my craft room, when doing a painting project. It will be so easy to paint an item when you are able to turn it.
Your turntable looks awesome, Terri! It’s such a useful piece to have in a home! You are quite handy and creative with woodworking tools! I’ve never been able to use tools like that! Although I grew up with a Dad who could make just about anything out of wood. Unfortunately, his talents didn’t rub off on me!
Thanks Gail. I agree with this being useful, I made it mostly for my projects with I paint. Turning it will be a breeze now.
Very clever and easy to follow tutorial. Love it, Terrie!
Thanks Jodi. This will be so nice while painting a project.
