DIY BOW BOARD

Hey there!  Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip!  Here on my blog I share tips on how you can decorate your home on a budget by creating it from scratch, revamping, re-purposing or giving it a makeover with easy tutorials.  I hope I inspire you to create something beautiful for your home. 🙂

I wanted to make something for my followers who would love to make a bow an easier way.  I think I have something simple for you to make a beautiful designer bow each and every time.  I am sharing today my tutorial on a bow board.

The items you will need to make one are:

Materials:

  • 5″ x 22″ x ½” MDF board
  • ½’ dowel rod cut into three 8″ pieces
  • wood glue
  • black sharpie
  • Round Self-Stick Adhesive Furniture Gripper Pads

Tools:

  • circular saw
  • drill with drill bit
  • hand sander
  • mallet
  • tape measurer
  • ruler

I am taking a scrap piece of MDF left over from my workstation project for my base.  I cut my board to the size of 22″ x 5″.  I sanded all the edges to round them off.

Taking the 1/2″ dowel rod cutting into 3 pieces of 8″.  Sanded all the ends to a more rounded edge.

To make the ribbon spool holder I placed a mark in the center of one end of the board and measured 1″ from the edge, marked.

Taking the drill and a drill bit a little smaller than the dowel rod and drill a hole on the mark.  Make sure not to drill all the way through the board.  Drill about a third way through.

Measuring from the mark 10½” placing another mark in the center.

Taking a zip tie and place it on the mark.  This will provide the space I need for the two dowel rods to place in the center.  Drill the two marks as steps above.

To add the dowel rods to the drilled holes, I added some wood glue into the drilled holes and tapped in the dowel rods.  Removing off any excess glue.

To protect the area I will be working on I applied furniture pads to the bottom corners of the board.

To make it easy to keep the loops of the bow even on each side I marked spaces on each side of the two dowel rods.  Solid lines for 1″ space and broken lines for ½”.  I wrote numbers to represent total inches.

That’s it!

If you want a bow maker and can not make one here are a few I found for you to purchase.

Now let’s make a pretty bow. 🙂

  1. Clever idea! Back in the day when I was making a wreath for each season and holiday, this would have been handy.

    1. Chloe I still do my bow making by hand as well, but this would be so easy when you have to make a lot of bows and your fingers get tired. ha!
