It’s time for the June’s Pinterest Challenge! The purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month’s challenge could be two options, red, white and blue inspiration or some summer fun.  The challenge is hosted by Erlene, My Pinterventures Blog.  I will link all the participants at the bottom of my page.

For this simple craft I am using 5 paint stir sticks and paint.  The pin I saw that inspired me came from Jodie and Jen over at Eighteen 25.  Their star was so cute I wanted to try making one.  Instead of using yarn for my star I am going to use paint.

Here are the supplies I am using:

  • 5 paint stir sticks – I am always purchasing paint which means I have tons of stir sticks
  • red, white and blue craft paint
  • star template
  • wood glue
  • stapler and staples
  • paint brushes
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • assorted ribbon

As Jodie and Jen the first step I laid my sticks in the shape of a star and marked where the sticks cross over to divide my blue area from the red and white.

Once I had my lines marked I started painting.  I used Admiral blue painting in the line area.

After the blue paint dried, I took my ruler and pencil making lines for the stripes.  I marked every 3/4 of an inch.  Painted the red stripes first with Apple red.

After the red was dry, I paint with white to the other stripes area.

Once my paint was all dry I formed my sticks back into the star.

I attached the ends together with wood glue and a staple.  Using the staples to keep the ends in place until the wood glue has time to dry.

Using a star stencil to add white stars to the blue area.

Adding several different ribbons to make a bow to add to the star with a little dab of hot glue.

This is a cute little July 4th decoration to make.

This is a easy and cute July 4th craft.  If you want to try making one for your holiday….
