Hey there! It’s time to do something with the mirror I now have. If you remember when we gave Kristin’s bathroom makeover we swapped mirrors. To see her bathroom makeover you can click here BATHROOM MAKEOVER.
Before I get started, I want to tell you about a challenge I am joining in. Two blogging girls gathered up a group of us for a Thrift Store blog hop challenge, Tara Stilettos and Shiplap and Emily LeCultivateur are the host of the hop. The rules are each one purchases an item or items from a thrift store, garage sale, flea market, or find something in someone’s trash pile, we take what we find and create something we can style in our homes. I will have all the participates names and photos at the bottom of my page.
Back to the mirror.. I know this wasn’t in Kristin’s trash, but if I didn’t swap with her I know our daughter too well, it would had been tossed in the trash! I think it qualifies with the rules of this challenge.

Here’s the mirror I started out with, it looks brighter than my furniture, plus to me it’s to matchy-matchy if I were to painted it the same color as the dresser.
In place of the white frame I changed it up with some sanding and paint. Let me show you what I did to achieve the look. First, I sanded off some of the white paint from the frame.
I used 80 grit sand paper , removing the amount of paint I wanted. It wasn’t hard at all, but boy was it ever messy!!
I left most of the white paint in the cervices.
To remove all the saw dust I used a damp cloth.
I like the looks of Waverly Antique wax on wood I used it instead of a minwax stain.
I applied the wax with a baby wipe.
To give the frame a white distressed look I used Waverly chalk paint in Plaster. The inspirational look was the candle holder I am showing below.
I dry brushed, lightly, the paint onto the frame. I did this with a light feather motion and made sure not to swipe the paint brush in the same area too much, I wanted a rough look.
It turned out the way I hoped it would. It looks close to the candle holder.
To seal the frame I used two coats of Minwax Finishing wax as the directions stated.
After the wax was good and dry I placed the mirror back on the dresser.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
It looks so much better after, Terrie. I agree, too matching and boring before but I love the dark wax and dry brushing. Great idea! Now your daughter is going to want it back . lol
I think so too Tara. Nah she is more of the glam type decor girl. Thanks for hosting the fun challenge.
Great transformation Terrie. Love the new look!
Cindy

Thanks Danya. I like it better than the white frame. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Emily. You are so sweet to host this fun challenge.
The mirror looks fabulous in your room! Good tutorial for anyone to use. xoxo
Thanks Donna. I do like the type of stain color the Waverly wax brings to wood and then the white faux distressing puts the look I like. Thanks for coming over my friend.
The mirror looks great Terrie! I love how you transformed it!
Thanks Jessica. I do like the more distressed look for our room, down the road I hope to find a different style mirror but in the meantime this works great.
Very pretty Terrie! Love that finish you put in the mirror. Looks perfect for your room!
Thank Tammy, it does blend nicely. For no cost this mirror will work until I can find the mirror I want up on the dresser. Thanks for stopping by!
What an awesome makeover. It looks amazing. Good job, Terrie!!
Thank you Jodi. I love the light stain with white distressing wood items. Glad it turned out the way I was aiming for.
I love the new look you gave this mirror! Definitely an upgrade!
Thanks Mariah. The mirror frame will blend nicely in the room, I am hoping to find a more detailed mirror to replace but for now this will work.
