Hey there! Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip, I am glad to have you here! Over the past 5 weeks I have been working in our entryway for the $100 Room Challenge hosted by Erin from Lemons, Lavender & Laundry. I am super excited to show you the finished project. I put a lot of time and sweat in the room and I’m so happy of what I accomplished for as little money I spent.
If you are just joining me on the challenge you can click on my progress below.

Before we start the reveal let’s take a look at what the room looked like 5 weeks ago.
5 weeks later….
Let’s review what my goals were for the room.
- Change the wall from the faux shiplap and install board and batten. √ DONE
- Adding wall mounted coat hooks for more storage. √ DONE
- Creating a sitting area for guest. √ DONE
- Replacing the area rug. √ DONE
Adding board and batten gave the room some character. Above the board and batten I painted the walls with Greensheen recycled paint in the color Cream Batch.
To view my tutorial on the board and batten you can review the project here DIY BOARD AND BATTEN.
To the board and batten I added coat hooks and we changed out the light switches and plug in to blend with the paint color.
I really shouldn’t say I built a bench because it was so easy. To save money and to get the style of bench I wanted I decided to buy legs with a piece of old scrap wood I created a bench. To review my DIY on creating the bench you can view the project here DIY BENCH.
Lastly, I added a throw rug to the room. I used most of my budget by the time it came to buying a rug. I found a small throw rug at Dollar General on clearance. It’s not the proper size, but to place in front of the door not only for our guest to wipe their feet, but will give a soft cushion step into our home. Plus, it will be the first thing our visitors will see. I did share how I dressed up the clearance rug by adding tassels. You can review the video here ADDING TASSELS TO A RUG.
Adding the tassels made the rug long enough for the doorway.
Come on into the entryway!
The entryway makeover is in the books! I kept the decorations simple since the room is small.
I can’t be more happier with my bench. It’s the style I wanted and it gives our guest somewhere to take off their shoes or place their purse while visiting.
The hooks are a great way to allow our guest to hang their coats on without wondering where they can put them.
To keep the cost down I shopped our home.
Let’s take a look at the budget…
- Week 1 – goals = $0
- Week 2 – installed board and batten = $29.30
- Week 3 – building a custom bench = $39.99
- Week 4 – added coat hooks and changed out light switches, plug in & plates = $20.60
- Week 5 – purchased a rug for the front door – rug – $2.50, yarn I had on hand $0 = $2.50
Grand Total = $92.39

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Terrie, your entryway turned out really beautiful! I know it must have been a lot of hard work but the new look is worth it. Happy to feature your post at this past week’s Share Your Style #276. <3
Enjoy decorating your "new" hall,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
This space is all about the details! You did such a great job with the board and batton, and all of the little projects. Congrats it turned out beautiful!
Thanks Jackie. I am happy with how it all turned out and love the new look.
The board and batten with the hooks looks great! The new bench space looks both beautiful and practical. Adding the tassels to the rug was so smart to make it fit the front door space!
Thanks Joy! I love how it all looks. So happy that I was able to meet my goals, even though the rug was a stand in until I can find the right one for the room.
That bench is so amazing! I know I saw it when you first showed it to us a few weeks ago, but it is perfect for this space, and done so inexpensively! This whole space is just gorgeous. Thank you so much for joining in on the challenge again.

Really wonderful job, Terrie. I can’t believe you did all that for $100!
Thanks Jodi. I did and would love to spend a little more for a rug, but that will come after a bit. Thanks for stopping by.

Cindy
Cindy you just said exactly what Mr Tip said. Don’t cover up all of the wall. ha! Thank you so much Cindy!

Thanks Tracy. I love the bench as well. You can decorate the bench so many different ways, I got to remember to keep it simple so when we do have guest (after the COVID-19) they can still sit down. ha!
