Our first project is the fireplace. If you have followed me for awhile, I shared how I painted my fireplace, if you have not seen my tutorial on how I painted my fireplace I linked it here ⇒ Fireplace Makeover. My daughter didn’t want to painted the fireplace one color, oh now that would of been way too easy, right? She wanted color variation in the brick. White washing it like I have seen people do would show a little of the brown brick and she didn’t want that. I came up with a way she can have the variations and to remove the brown. A little more time consuming. It only took us about 5 hour to finish this project. We will be painting the mantel next. I will share that with you as well. 🙂
Here is the fireplace before.
We removed the antique brass glass doors. It was attached to the fireplace with just two screws.
It looks better already! 🙂 We cleaned the brick by vacuuming and wiping it down.
We painted the entire fireplace brick with Behr paint, color Rustic Taupe.
She is going to have her TV attached above the mantel. Hint, the huge hole in the center. 🙂
What I used to paint each brick was a sponge mop attachment, I pulled off the plastic part to hold onto the mop head and cut the sponge to the size of the brick..
The first color we used was Behr Pure White. I tapped the sponge into the paint and then tapped it on a clean part of the pan to remove most of the paint.
I placed the sponge evenly on one brick and pressed lightly.
I used the sponge on all 5 bricks before reapplying paint to the sponge. I didn’t want the bricks all to look the same in the small pattern.
The hardest part of this project was choosing a pattern. We decided to do a 5 brick pattern, I made sure I mimicked the pattern all the way down to the hearth.
I skipped a few bricks between pattern and added a couple single stamped painted bricks in the center of the two patterns to keep it from being too much white.
On the hearth I just went randomly painted some white.
After the white paint dried I mixed some of the Jungle Taupe with the white to give another shade of color. I applied the mixture of the two to the other bricks filling it all in.
I also stamped 5 bricks before applying more paint.
I can’t wait to see the fireplace with the mantel painted.
