I have shared tutorials on painted books (PAINTED BOOKS) and burlap book covers (BURLAP BOOK COVERS) with you already. I love using books for décor pieces, I am all about this challenge. I am ready to share my challenge with three books. In fact, I am doing 3 book décor sets to share with you! How about that?
Here is my tutorial and the items I am going to use.
- paper back books – I wanted mine to all be the same size
- ribbon or material cut into ribbon strips
- paint and stencil brush
- letter stencil
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- scissors
- twine
- emblishments
Taking the cover off of the book, nothing hard about this part.
I took a Dollar Tree sanding sponge and sanded the spine of each of my books.
I did this to all of my books.
The first set I am painting all three spines, one top page and one bottom page. I am using Folkart Beachcombers Beige.
Letting those dry. Taking another set of books and dry brushing some Waverly elephant chalk paint.
The last set of books I am leaving as is.
I don’t have a cricut or stamps so I am going to stencil my lettering on the spines. Doing one letter at a time trying to make sure each are even. I tried but some of my letters are not. 🙁
Here are the phases I choose for each set of books.
- HAPPINESS IS HOMEMADE. Isn’t this phrase perfect for me? Using white chalk paint
- TODAY TOMORROW ALWAYS. Using elephant chalk paint
- ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. Using elephant chalk paint
I sanded lightly after the paint dried on all the wording. I added hot glue to the middle and
bottom book to keep them together.
Time to decorate my books.
For the set I gave to my son. I used two different material ripping it into a ribbon. Adding a thin ribbon with embellishments tied to the ends.
For the set I am giving to my daughter. I used a piece of lace, placed that around the books and ripped another strip of material, placed that on top of the lace. Added a thin silver wire ribbon.
On the set I made for myself I used a knit lace, ribbon and twine with heart button embellishments.
My letters are not even or as clear as I would like. I would suggest to use a stamp, vinyl wording or even buy premade lettering. Both of my kids love their sets and don’t see all the errors I do. Oh they do now because I pointed them all out. 🙂
I styled my son’s stacked books in his office. It is adorable! I am styling it with my DIY lantern. If you missed that tutorial you can check that out here DIY BRUSH LANTERN.
I will share how we styled my daughter’s when we get her living room all completed. If you missed our process of giving her living room a makeover on a budget you can check that out here LIVINGROOM MAKEOVER ON A BUDGET.
For my set I don’t know yet where I want it. It could go on my hutch, on a shelf in my corner cabinet or in our bedroom. Decisions….Decisions.
Or I can put it here.
