Today’s post is one I wrote and shared back in 2018. Since we are starting our 2023 Christmas Season, I thought it was fitting to begin the blogging season with this blog post. Tammy is sharing a couple pre-Christmas tips as well. I will have her blog post at the bottom of my page.
I promise I have all my decorations still in their tubs up in the attic. It doesn’t mean I haven’t started my planning about how I am going to decorate our home this Christmas. To me, planning early will help ease the stress when it comes time to decorate our home.
Christmas is only 8 weeks away! For real…can you believe it? That being said, it doesn’t mean you have to go into panic mode. I am going to share with you a couple things I do to help make Christmas decorating more enjoyable. I am no expert by no means, but after years of decorating our home, I have it down to science.
Here are 3 steps that make my Christmas decorating fun!
Let’s get started!
1. SEARCH FOR INSPIRATION
Start making plans on color scheme and a theme for each room. Spend some time to identify the style you love and make plans to bring them into your space.
We have so many decorating sources out there. I love to look through Pinterest and magazines and all sorts of places.
Just like Santa, I too make list; I jot down all the rooms that I want to decorate.
2. Do inventory of what you already have
Write down the decorations you want to use in each room with, check off the decorations you already have.
Remember….you can always change their appearance with paint!
Sometimes you will be surprised at the items you forgot you have. I was checking my list and didn’t remember I had a bottle brush Christmas tree. I marked it down as something I need to buy, but after checking my inventory I have one!
3. Time to shop
After you have marked off the items you already have, it’s time to get the things you need want. Not everyone can start with new decorations. Do a little budget shopping, thrift store shopping and even a DIY or two. Revamping an old decoration would be a great way to save money.
Before I start decorating, I like to have a plan in mind and all my decorations gathered in place. I turn on some Christmas music or a Hallmark movie and just start decorating.
I hope my 3 little tips help you decorate with ease this Christmas season.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Great tips Terrie – especially the take inventory. I do have a little book that I write everything down in so I know where to find it, but I don’t even look at it before I pick new things up. Which is enlightening! lol! Thanks for sharing!
I have done the very same thing. I am needing a type of garland thinking I don’t have it, unpack and they it is! No wonder I have so many tubs of Christmas decorations. 🙂
Terrie,
Great ideas! I love your tip of picking a theme and then start planning around that! And decorating while listening to music is always the best! However I am partial to watching White Christmas while I decorate. It’s always fun to get into the spirit while decking the halls. Love your décor girl!

Jerri, I can see why you would want to have on White Christmas. Yes…that would get me in the mood also. Thank you for coming over and reading my tips. They truly help me get through the first part of the season. Have a beautiful day!
Planning ahead makes all the difference. We didn’t put up a tree last year since we were away in Australia for Christmas and New Years so it’s been two years since I’ve opened the Christmas bins! Eeek. Can’t even remember what I have! 🙂
Rita, will you put a tree up this year? Your trips would be amazing around the holidays. I am sure all your bins are perfectly safe and ready for you to open them. Have a great day my friend.
