Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip! If you are coming over from Liberty B4 & Afters, so happy to have you here! Liberty had some great tips on decorating a child’s room, didn’t she?
If you follow my blog long you know the first Wednesday of the month I host a DIY Challenge. I gathered a group of bloggers who also loves to create budget friendly décor for their homes. For the February challenge I asked my friends to gather up ideas on how we can organize our homes on a budget. At the bottom of my page I will have all of my friend’s links to their blogs so you can go over and see how they are organizing their homes.
I am sharing a previous blog I posted back in 2018 (with updated photos). Giving you tips on how to utilize the space you have. I am going to show you how I utilized my utility closet in our laundry room.

Let’s take a look at my closet.
I won’t bore you with the back shelving, I can honestly tell you that I probably have one of everything you can think of in here. 🙂 What I want to focus on today are the walls.
When you have a limited amount of storage in your home or if your rooms seem to always be cluttered, using the walls are a great way to get organized.
Here’s how I used every inch of our utility closet.
You have seen my grocery bag holder. I shared this with you on my under the sink organization blog. If you missed that you can go HERE to check that out. As you can see I still haven’t painted the thing.
I have had my ironing board holder for years, using the organizer stores the iron and ironing board in a single convenient location.
Adding the mop and broom organizer works great for decluttering all my brooms and mops. This is perfect for the wall it takes up a lot less space than just throwing these items in a corner.
To save even more space, I mounted a paper bag holder onto the wall!
I place folded up bags and I hang my Thirty One thermal tote bag on it. Again, it keeps things in their place up off the floor.
The peg board is probably the best functional and practical DIY I have done. It was very easy to install on the wall.
I purchased a 2′ x 4′ piece of peg board at Lowe’s. To bring it off the wall for the hooks to set in I purchased two 1″ x 2″ and cut to size. I attached them to the wall where the studs were. Then just attached the peg board on the 1 x 2s.
I painted mine to match the wall and started placing things where I wanted.
Here is a cute little DIY peg board basket hack I did. I purchased a 3 pack of Dollar Tree baskets and placed them on two peg board hooks.
One I use to store my travel iron.
I know my utility closet isn’t a show and tell type of pretty, but everything has it’s place and when we need something we know right where it is…Oh unless someone forgets to put it back! 🙁
With the shelving and the wall I utilized enough floor space to house my vacuum and such to one side and have easy access to the shelving.
This is our closet and how it looks everyday. I love how everything has it’s place.
Thanks for coming by today. I hope I inspired you to utilize your space. Don’t forget walls can use for storage too.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Pinned it! Pegboard is the bomb. When organizing and storing supplies, every inch counts. Smart cookie to use hanging pieces to collect up things so they can actually be found. I put the most frequently used items in front, then layer back. Hmm, I think I have a clone of your someone who doesn’t always put things back where they live. xoxo
You have one of those too I read. ha! We have to love them, don’t we? Thanks for pinning my friend! Yes peg board is the only way to go. ha!
Hi Terrie,
Oh yes, I use every square and cubic inch I can squeeze out of my house! I even have artwork painted on our attic door on the ceiling! Thank you for organizing this hop for us.
Glad I am not the only one using every inch of our home. You are welcome Liberty, thanks for participating.
You always have the best ideas for getting areas organize! I love reading your posts and seeing your nicely organized areas! I wish that would rub off on me.! Lol! My hubby is the neatest person I know and after a lifetime of being with him, I’m still not a neat person. I appreciate he lets me be that way!
Thanks Gail. I could be so much more organized. My hubby is a neat person too, I think he rubbed off on me. I think opposites attack. ha
Your utility closet looks great and using peg boards was a great choice. You used every spot you could and have everything neat.
Thanks for hosting!
