Y’all have seen my kitchen, right? The honey oak cabinets, Cecilla gold granite countertops and the brown and beige backsplash, typical 80’s kitchen. So, why haven’t I changed any of them yet, you might ask. Well, would I love to change them out, you Betcha! But let’s face reality, they actually are a top-notch kitchen cabinet and who has the money to change things just because they aren’t in “style” anymore?
Before I get started sharing what I will be doing in the kitchen, I’m inviting you a week of kitchen inspiration, Tammy Patina and Paint will be joining me as we change things up in the kitchen. So, after you read my post head over to Tammy’s where she’s sharing her plans in her kitchen. I’ll have her blog linked at the bottom of my page.
My plans this week in the kitchen.
My first step is pulling out my color palette. As I look into the family room from the kitchen, I notice I have a lot of work to create a nice flow.
What will I start with first? I am going to focus on the backsplash, the grout lines are turning pink as they age. It’s not in the cards to replace the backsplash so I will be changing the grout with paint.
To keep the kitchen flowing with the rest of our home…
With our yellow/orange color cabinets, I want to tone them down, just a little, to do this I will be adding decor pieces that are opposite of orange on the color chart.
Which is exactly what I want to do!! Can this be done with the granite countertop? I googled colors to compliment Cecilia gold granite and look at this!!
YAY!!! I pulled my color palette out, took a look around at what I have, change things I needed too and did a little shopping too.
Tomorrow will be decorating our hutches and tables, hope to see you back here!!
Make sure you jump over to see Tammy’s plans for her kitchen.

These are the kind of blog posts I really appreciate. I sometimes wonder what kind of world some of the people I follow live in – because I sure as heck don’t have unlimited funds to be continually making major changes, demoing things, and completely redoing decor by buying all new pieces……
Lynne, if money grew on trees we would have the houses in magazines, but since they don’t we have to compromise and do things the best way we can. Try, fail and then try again until it works. 🙂
Terrie your plans look so good! I can’t wait to see what you do with your backsplash and the rest of your room. If it’s anything like your living room it’s going to be gorgeous!
I have a lot I want to do; I hope I can pull it all together. Thanks for all your kind words, Tammy, I appreciate it.
