LET’S CLEAN THOSE WHITE BASEBOARDS & MOLDINGS

It’s that time of the year for me, actually it is a little late for me to be Spring cleaning, but better late than never! 🙂   If you have white wood work like I do, you know that they tend to show dust and dirt a little more than stained wood. I clean baseboards as part of my cleaning routine and like most tasks, it’s easier if you stay ahead of the dust and grime.  Here is my way of cleaning all of my white wood work.  As you can see I have a lot of white molding too.  I do the same cleaning method as I do with my baseboards.

In our first home the trim was stained and in our home now we have all white trim.  I wasn’t for sure how to clean my trim so I asked my friend what she uses on her wood work.  She cleans her baseboards with Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner.  I tried it on mine and loved how it cleaned and gave my white trim a pretty shine.

Here is what you will need to clean your white baseboards like I do.

  1. Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner (I use an off-brand cleaner and it works just as well)
  2. Soft scrub brush or you can use a vacuum cleaner
  3. Toothbrush
  4. Clean cloth
  5. Fabric softener sheets

Let’s get started!

I clean the trim with my soft scrub brush.  If it is very dusty you can use your vacuum first to get the dust off.

To get into the corners I use a toothbrush.

If it is really dirty I would take a damp cloth and wipe the trim.

After I dust the trim I spray the bathroom cleaner on the baseboards.  Trying not to get too much on the wall.  Sometimes the spray gets on the wall, but it dries without leaving a stain.

Taking my clean cloth and wiping the trim clean and making sure it is dry.

After the cleaner is all removed and the trim is dry, I use a fabric softener sheet.  Wiping the sheet on to the trim not only picks up any left over dust, but it leaves an anti-static coating to the trim which helps stop the dust from forming onto the wood work.  I bet this step would also work on stained trim.  Let me know those of you with stained trim if you have tried the fabric softener sheet how it worked for you.

There is no need to dread or fear cleaning your white wood trim when you use my simple cleaning tip.  This will leave your white trim clean and have a shine to it.

  1. This is so clever! I love that after you clean with spray bubbles and dry with towel you use a fabric softener sheet! Who knew? Great tips my friend!

  2. Terrie, this is all so helpful and useful! I always dread cleaning baseboards. I’m definitely going to try cleaning them this way!
    Happy Monday!
