MAKE A SUNBURST GRAPEVINE WREATH

Hello and happy April, if you are new to Decorate and More with Tip welcome! So happy you came over to see what DIY I am working on today. If you are coming from Sierra, Living Little John didn’t she created a beautiful wreath? I love the coloring and the Hi sign it’s so cute!

It’s the first Wednesday of the month, which means time for the DIY challenge! We thought it would be fun this month to share our inspiration on how we style a grapevine wreath.  The rules were very simple, use any type, shape and size grapevine wreath and share you creation with us. I am so excited to be hosting this group of talented ladies, I have some inspiring DIYers. I listed all of my friend’s links at the bottom of my page, all you have to do is click to head over to their homes where they will show you how they styled their grapevine wreaths.

For my grapevine wreath, I could of use any of the ones I have in my craft closet.  Crazy thing I even went to Hobby Lobby when the wreaths were 50% off and bought a new one, BUT….

I am going to keep them all in my closet and give you some inspiration on how you can make a sunburst grapevine wreath with one item you can grab outside. Since we shouldn’t get out and shop for supplies, I thought I would show you what we can make without shopping. 🙂

Let’s make a homemade wreath!!

1. Gathering the Twigs for the Wreath

The main item we need for a sunburst wreath, of course are the twigs.  I went out in the back of our yard where there are several trees and bushes, actually it’s on our neighbor’s property. When I went out there with my garden clippers to cut branches off the trees I noticed on the ground a bunch of perfectly sized twigs for my wreath. I grabbed a bucket full of twigs.

I placed them all on our driveway, gave them a good spray of water to clean the dirt off.

2. Create a Base for the Wreath

While the twigs are drying I grabbed one wire coat hanger and formed it into a 9 inch circle, wrapping the ends closed. I sprayed my wire circle brown to blend in with the twigs. If you have a dark coat hanger this would be one step you can skip.

4. Making the Sunbursts Bundles

I gathered 20 twigs in my hand and bundled them together with floral wire. Again, it would have been better if I had brown wire, but I am working with what I have on hand. If you don’t have floral wire you could use bread ties removing the plastic or paper coating to combined the twigs together. I made 18 bundles.

5. Making the Sunburst Grapevine Wreath

Taking the bundles and attaching the bundle to the wire circle with floral wire.

I kept adding each bundle to the wire form with the floral wire. Overlapping each one.

On the last bundle, lift up the very first bundle you placed on the wire circle and slide the last bundle underneath it.

It’s starting to take shape. We aren’t done yet!

I took my gardening scissors and trimmed the twigs evenly.

My OCD kicked in, I do not like the green wire showing. At first I tired to use brown floral tape but that looked worse than the green wire. So I gathered all the clippings up that I just cut from trimming the wreath.

I decided to grab my hot glue gun and glue the trimmings over the wires. I also placed hot glue to the wreath and brought over some of the sunburst twigs from the bundles gluing them to the wire to hide it.

I placed my DIY wreath with the ones I have. What do you think?  Looks pretty darn good, I think!

To be honest, I didn’t think it would come out as good as it did.  My tutorial gave you a way to make a wreath so now you don’t have to get out and shop, go out for a walk and find some old twigs on the ground or cut some small branches off of a tree and make you a wreath. My friends below will give you some inspiration on how to decorate your wreath.  Well wait….I want to style the one I just made for you too!

I grabbed some flowers I had on hand and a bunch of scrap ribbon.

I added hot glue to the stems and stuck them into the wreath. I added two color ribbons to coordinate with the little Spring sign.

I placed my wreath on our side door coming out of the garage for Spring.  I love the purple and yellow.  It screams Spring!

I hope you liked my tutorial on making a sunburst grapevine wreath. I had so much fun creating this wreath with items here around our home.
