Welcome, to everyone who came over from Michelle at Thistle Key Lane home so glad you are here.  Wasn’t Michelle’s bedroom beautiful?  I just love how she styled her bedroom in whites, it looks so cozy and comfy.

I linked all of my friend’s blogs at the end of my page.  I hope you enjoy and get inspired.

It took me a good week and half to pack away all of my Christmas decorations.  When I was asked to participate in the Cozy Winter Home blog hop I was excited, but I never decorated my home for the winter season before.  I go from Christmas right into normal home decor.  I had to figure out how I was going to decorated without it looking like Christmas.   Here we go…..First I have to get back up in the attic and grab a few of my holiday decor.

For my family room, I wanted to decorate my family room in a more rustic winter look.  When I picture winter decor, I see pine cones, evergreen, and birch trees.  But if you asked me what first thing comes to mind, it would be cold.

Starting with my mantel.  I had so many questions on where I found the frames above my mantel,  Click here and I will share with you where ⇒ CABINET DOOR MAKEOVER.

I wanted to give the frame a little winter touch by adding branches to the top.  I shopped my home and didn’t go out and purchase anything new.  I had a few brown curly willow branches in my stash, but I would of rather of used a grapevine garland.  But I didn’t have one here at the house so the willow branches will work just fine.

Adding my three Kirkland’s mercury glass candle holders (linking candle holders similar to the ones I have).  Instead of candles I place pine cones on all three of the holders.  I found beautiful pine cones at a golf course when we were visiting our son.  To make sure I didn’t bring anything in with the pine cones I placed the pine cones in the oven to bake on 200° for 30 minutes.  I read where this will kill all the living things that I don’t want crawling in my home. 🙂

I kept the two pottery decor pieces on my mantel also.  I added two branch twigs and a budded twig in the larger piece.  Taking a pottery bowl and adding some pine cones.  I used some white paint to give a couple pine cones a little color.

On the other side of the mantel I added the other pottery vase and my little owl.

Do you remember my little owl.  He use to be silver.

Painted him brown then distressed.  I wanted some of the silver to come through.

Just added some greenery and more pine cones to the mantel.

On the hearth I placed a basket with greenery, twigs, crystal twigs and DIY birch logs.

Let’s go to the coffee table.  I kept my Walmart lanterns with some pine cones, greenery and antlers.

On the side tables.  I added more of those nice pine cones and greenery in a white dish.  I place a little piece of burlap underneath.

I had a very old Christmas lantern that I packed away several years ago.  I took out my chalk paint and gave it a little makeover.  I added greenery and a burlap ribbon.  Sat it on my tier side table.

On my round table I just added a white pitcher with some twigs and eucalyptus.

Now to the back wall.  Remember last week when I decided to paint my mirror? I shared with you in my stories, well here it is in a distressed dark brown.  What do you think?

I added my DIY burlap runner.  If you want to go take a look at the tutorial on how I made the runner, click here ⇒ DIY BURLAP RUNNER.  Along with my two Kirkland’s Buffet Lamps (similar to the ones I have) I added my Balance Scale, more pine cones and greenery.  I found the little wooden Blessing Sign at Hobby Lobby.  On one side of the balance scale I placed a Greenery Plant and more pine cones along with another antler.  On the other side I placed a white distressed Artichoke Finial, candle and more pine cones.

In the corner I placed my little bench with a Baby Plaid Pink Fleece Throw Blanket and a little rod iron candle holder with a glass votive candle, I found at the thrift store a year ago.  I added some fake snow and some evergreen pieces inside the votive with the candle.  On the floor I added some of those pine cones I picked up while visiting my son and placed them in a basket with greenery.  I also painted some of the pine cones white.

So what do you think?  Shopping my home and working on some small DIYs I created a cozy winter surroundings.  Remember, shopping your home should be the first thing to do when decorating your home.  I think for not going out and buying any one thing new I master a fun, budget friendly and cozy winter home.
