Hey there! Pretty soon some of us will be thinking about how we are going to set our table for Thanksgiving dinner. Even though I am not hosting a dinner party this Thanksgiving, I still wanted to share a simple Thanksgiving tablescape. I am joining 13 fabulous girls who are sharing their simple tables with you as well. It’s time for our Pinterest Inspiration Challenge hosted by Cindy, County Road 409. If you are coming over from Lora B Create & Ponder, wasn’t Lora’s table pretty?! I just love Lora’s inspiration.

This month’s inspiration photo is from Lindsey over at Lindsey Brunk. Her table is beautiful. I love how she set her table. Click on the picture or her blog’s name above to head over to see what the whole table looks like.
I had this thought I wanted to do with napkins and Modge Podge. I purchased the napkins and dishwasher safe Modge Podge to get started with my DIY. I cut the napkins out and place it underneath a Dollar Tree clear glass plates before glueing. Glad I waited….
I just didn’t like the look so I started back at square one. I took a look in my storage tub where I kept the pumpkins I didn’t use this year. I pulled out 6 of my gold Dollar Tree pumpkins to use, after I gave them a new color….You knew that was coming, right?
I decided to take the gold pumpkins and change them to look like they are mercury glass pumpkins.
Supplies you will need.
- Looking glass spray paint – silver
- spray bottle with water
- 6 gold glass pumpkins from Dollar Tree (couldn’t find them online)

Here is how I turned my Dollar Tree gold pumpkins to mercury glass pumpkins.
- I cleaned the pumpkins well and placed them on something to raise them off the tarp.
- Taking my spray bottle filled with tap water, I mist over the pumpkin.
- Spraying a light coat of the Looking Glass paint evenly on the pumpkin.
After painting you will still have water drops on the pumpkin.
- Taking a paper towel and dabbed to pop the air bubbles.
I did the same thing to the other 5 pumpkins. Letting them dry. They turned out so good. Looks like the mercury glass pumpkins I purchased, don’t you think?
While they were drying I took my napkins to fold into a dress napkin fold.
Here is the steps on how I folded the napkins.
- Fold your napkin in half
- Fold your napkin in a fan fold. Folding back and forth until it is completely folded
- Fold your folded napkin in half
- Place your napkin ring onto your napkin
- Fan out the napkin
- Open up the loop
To complete the look of Lindsey’s inspirational place setting adding a little note card to the place setting. How I created an inexpensive card I searched Google for my favorite three little words. I found the pattern I liked, I copied and pasted in a Word document and printed 6 off. I traced around the saying with a metal leaf that I had, cutting it out and placing it on the pumpkin with a string.
- Print off the saying
- Cut your saying out
- Using a hole punch to create a hole to thread a piece of string
- Tie around the stem of the pumpkin
I placed the pumpkin inside the loop part of my napkin.
Now to add the stemware and flatware to the table.
I didn’t change the centerpiece I shared with y’all on an earlier blog this season ⇒ FALL DINING TABLE CENTERPIECE. I just added the place settings to complete my table.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
Terrie, this is all so cute! I love the diy mercury glass pumpkins! You are so creative and so talented!

Thank you so much Emily. I love how paint can take something good into something great.
These turned out beautifully! Can you believe that I’ve never tried the faux mercury glass? I have a spray bottle of it in the garage. I totally forgot about it. Love the rustic glam look of them!
Christy you really need to try the looking glass paint. Go pull the can of paint out and start painting. ha!
Oooh, I love this idea to repaint something into mercury glass, Terrie!! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions as I had wanted to redo some ornaments into a mercury glass look. 💕 Love how your table turned out and the napkins really jump out with their fun aqua color!!!
Have fun making more mercury glass magic,
Barb 🥰✨
Thank you Barbara. I am so happy that the looking glass spray paint worked. I am going to go crazy with the rest of the paint. ha!
Thank you! I was really happy on how the looking glass spray paint gave the pumpkins the mercury glass look. I will be doing this to other things in the future. Thanks for stopping by!
Terrie,
Gorgeous table and the DIY pumpkins turned out great. Never did this with just water. I add white vinegar to the water. You are the Queen.
Another fantastic job.
Cindy
I read where you can use vinegar and water but I already just used the water and it worked just fine. You are the sweetest. Hope you are having a fun Fall.
Terrie, your DIY projects are always SO awesome! I’m amazed by that mercury glass technique. I just painted a different type of dollar store pumpkin, and now I’m wanting to try your method. It does look like you bought them at a nice boutique! It all turned about beautifully.
Thanks you Crissy. I really liked how they turned out and have several more up in the tub. ha! Maybe for next year. ha! Happy Fall
LOVE those DIY mercury glass pumpkins! And put them in the middle of the napkin fold? So pretty! Love your twist on the Pinterest Challenge, my friend. And love hopping with you! Pinned!
Thanks Julie. I know it was suppose to be used with flatware but I think that’s what makes this challenge so great….Happy Fall Julie.
I love how you made the mercury glass pumpkins! I had no idea you could use water to get that look. Your table looks fabulous!
Thank you so much Michelle. I have always wanted to do this….so glad I finally did. Thanks for stopping by.
Your DIY mercury glass pumpkins are fantastic and turned out beutifully! I want to try that. Love your table. So glad you could join us.
It was a little fun painting project that turned out so well. Happy to be joining in so much great talented bloggers.
Love the mercury glass pumpkins that you created to nestle into each napkin. Also love that napkin fold! Your table looks so pretty. Like you, mine isn’t going to be actually used but I am admiring it everyday, so that’s a good use for it. 🙂
Thank you Paula. I have always wanted to do the technique this challenge pushed me which I am so happy that they turned out and I have some smaller pumpkins to match my larger ones.
Terrie, The spray bottle idea before the paint is brilliant! Great tip; they totally look like real Mercury glass. I always learn something new from you!
Awe…thanks Lora. I am so happy I shared then. Hope you have a great Fall season.
I like your pretty silver pumpkins so much better than the gold. Great idea, they looks so expensive. You created such a pretty and inviting table, I love those napkins too.
Thank you so much Marty. I am so happy that I have smaller pumpkins to match the larger ones. And for only a $1 and small amount of paint can’t go wrong. Have a super Fall season.
Oh my gosh I can’t believe how HIGH END your pumpkins look! I have some of the same and boy will they be getting a makeover. Thank you for the tutorial!
I am so happy you will be doing this to some of your pumpkins. I just love how mine look. Thanks for stopping by Laura.
