SOME EASY WAYS TO PREP FOR FALL DECORATING

Are you wondering how you can prepare yourself better for fall decorating?  If you need some ideas, this post is for you! I have some of my tips to help you avoid stress while decorating your home.

Decorating for a new season can be pretty overwhelming if we think about it. What colors should I choose? Should I decorate every room or just the main rooms? When should I start decorating? Shouldn’t decorating be a fun task?  Well, maybe my tips will help you find joy in your decorating season.

Joining me on sharing some of her tips for planning the Fall decorating season, is my friend, Tammy over at Patina and Paint, I will have her blog link at the bottom of my page for you.

How I prepare for Fall decorating:

Make a plan.

The first step, sit down and decide what rooms you want to decorate.  For example, your whole house or just a few rooms, do you want to decorate the outside as well?

Once you figured out your decorating plans, pick a date that works for you to start to give you plenty of time to finish with all your decorating so you can enjoy all the Fall activities with your family.

I have planned out all the rooms I will be decorating for Fall, I took out the calendar and looked at the date of our family trip, I want to be finished decorating before the trip.  Knowing the number of rooms and how long it takes me for each room, I mapped out a start date.

Get Inspired:

In order for you to vision how you want to decorate, you need inspiration.  This could be your favorite piece or maybe a pretty throw pillow, it’s easier to decorate when you have something to build from.

A great way to find your inspiration, walk through stores in their seasonal isles or look at the high-end store’s websites.  Even Pinterest or Instagram have inspiring things to motivate you.

This year for my inspirational piece is a frame I purchased from Kirkland’s.

Once you have your inspiration in place, it’s easy to identify which colors you will use.  The goal is to create a coherent style for your space using the colors in your inspirational piece.

If you want to have different colors and themes in each room you decorate, you still should base the room’s decorations on an inspirational piece.

Take Inventory:

Gather up all your Fall decorations to see what you already have, decide what you want to use and what items you need to buy.

Make a list of everything you want, write it all down, it doesn’t mean you have to buy it all, but it’s nice to have a list to consider when you do go shopping.

Lastly, when picking Fall accessories, consider artwork, stems, pumpkins and candles.  All of these will add finishing touches to your home.

Using these 3 simple tips when a new season of decorating starts can do wonders to boost your mood and creativity. I know having a plan helps me stay focused, inspired, and productive in my decorating. The best part is smiling every time I walk into my home after I just finished decorating.
