I’m currently obsessed with collecting vases to style in our home. There are so many ways to style them with or without stems, creating decorative vignettes or sitting them on a shelf for a statement piece.
I find most of my vase in thrift stores; you can find all sorts of sizes and shapes of vessels. If you are lucky, you’ll find one that all you have to do is a good cleaning, but most of mine need a little more than a cleaning. Today, I am working on one that surprisingly was very easy to give a makeover to.
My Goodwill Vase Makeover
I purchased this vase for $10.99. Wow, what a steel for the size it is.
The vase has strips of wicker around the middle of the vase. It was loose and broken.
Using my snips I started removing the strips.
Since the strips was loose and broken, it didn’t take much effort removing.
As you can see, it still has old glue and residue of the wicker stuck to the vase.
To remove all the old glue and wicker, I placed it in the bathtub, with warm soapy water and a wire brush I started scrubbing the vase.
I also scrap off the hard stuck on glue with my putty knife.
After scrubbing and scrapping I felt I had most of the glue and wicker off the vase. I decided to use my hand sander with 220 grit sandpaper to give a light sanding to make double sure it was all smooth for painting. I then gave it a good cleaning inside and out.
The more I looked at the vase sitting on my hearth, it looked nice just as it is. The scratches of the paint from the scrubbing gave it a distressed look to the panel.
With the decide of keeping it the way it looks, I styled it with some pussy willow stems.
I find it so fun and rewarding to breathe new life into old vase. And this vase was super easy to give it a fresh new look. I hope you feel inspired to spruce up an old vase of your own.

Stay strong and God bless! ♥
Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
This is like an Un-makeover and I am here for it! I like it better, too.
When I started this project, I thought I would be painting it like I normally do, but after I removed the wicker ribbon I thought, why do anything to it right now? So I left it as it is, until I figure out what I want to do with it. Thanks Gina for coming by.
